Hernandez was reassigned to the Rangers' minor-league camp Sunday. Hernandez was never a likely bet to make Texas' Opening Day roster and should open the 2023 campaign at Triple-A Round Rock. He had an .880 OPS in 89 games with the affiliate last season, though he also made his MLB debut and went 6-for-33 with 15 strikeouts in 14 contests.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Stays in organization
The Rangers outrighted Hernandez to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. Hernandez will stay in the Texas organization after he went unclaimed off waivers upon being designated for assignment Tuesday. The 27-year-old posted a .442 OPS in 35 plate appearances with the Rangers prior to being booted off the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Cast off 40-man roster
The Rangers designated Hernandez for assignment Tuesday. Hernandez is 0-for-14 in his last seven games and has a .442 OPS since joining the team in mid-July. It's hard to see the outfielder/designated hitter finding his way back on the Rangers' 40-man roster this season, even if he isn't claimed off waivers and sticks around in the organization.... Rangers' Elier Hernandez: On bench again
Hernandez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. After making three consecutive starts over the weekend while going hitless in eight at-bats, Hernandez finds himself on the bench for the third game in a row. With Corey Seager getting more work at designated hitter of late while he works to move past a leg injury, Hernandez doesn't look like he'll have a clear path to playing time.... See More ... Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Gets third straight start
Hernandez will start in left field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Angels. Hernandez will pick up his third consecutive start Sunday, but he'll likely be moved back into a short-side platoon role if Corey Seager's bruised leg doesn't result in him moving to the injured list. If Seager is cleared to play during the upcoming week, the Rangers wouldn't have the designated-hitter spot available and would likely deploy the trio of Kole Calhoun, Leody Taveras and Adolis Garcia as its main outfielders against right-handed pitching.... Rangers' Elier Hernandez: On bench again Sunday
Hernandez is not in the starting lineup Sunday versus the Athletics. Hernandez will be on the bench for the second game in a row Sunday as the Rangers finish their series with the Athletics. Ezequiel Duran will take over at designated hitter and bat eighth against Oakland.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Sitting Saturday
Hernandez isn't starting Saturday against the Athletics. Hernandez started the last two games and went 1-for-6 with a double, an RBI and three strikeouts. Kole Calhoun is serving as the designated hitter while Ezequiel Duran enters the lineup at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Elier Hernandez: On bench in Miller's return
Hernandez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. Hernandez went 3-for-10 with an RBI and run scored while starting in each of the past three games, but Texas won't have room in the lineup Sunday for the rookie with Brad Miller (neck) returning to action. The righty-hitting Hernandez appears likely to fill the short side of a platoon at designated hitter with the lefty-hitting Miller.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Added to Saturday's lineup
Hernandez was added to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mariners. Hernandez will serve as the designated hitter and bat ninth Saturday after Brad Miller (neck) was scratched from the lineup. Hernandez has gone 2-for-6 with a run and four strikeouts over the last two games.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Contract selected, batting eighth
The Rangers selected Hernandez's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, and he'll bat eighth as the designated hitter for Texas' series opener with Seattle. Hernandez has hit well at Round Rock this year with a .910 OPS, 11 home runs, 35 RBI and nine stolen bases in 62 games, and he'll now receive his first opportunity in the big leagues. Steven Duggar was optioned to Round Rock in a corresponding move. The righty-hitting Hernandez could serve as a short-side platoon option at DH while he's up with Texas.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Getting call-up Thursday
The Rangers plan to call up Hernandez from Triple-A Round Rock prior to Thursday's game against the Mariners, Hector Gomez of Z101Digital.com reports. Hernandez looks set to make his major-league debut after producing a .295 average with 11 homers, 35 RBI, 40 runs and nine stolen bases over 231 plate appearances at Triple-A in this year. The 27-year-old bats from the right side of the plate and is likely to serve as a short-side platoon option while he's up with Texas.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Elier Hernandez: Joins Rangers on minors deal
Hernandez signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Monday. The 26-year-old outfielder has spent the entirety of his professional career thus far as a member of the Royals' organization. He's yet to properly conquer the Triple-A level, hitting .253/.309/.362 in 152 games for Omaha.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Elier Hernandez: Aims to keep momentum rolling this fall
Hernandez was assigned to play in this year's Arizona Fall League, Max Rieper of SB Nation reports. Hernandez made multiple trips to the DL with undisclosed injuries this season, affording him just 46 games in 2017 -- the least for any campaign during his professional career. While on the field, the 22-year-old outfielder seemed to finally figure it out. Hernandez's .317/.355/.489 slash line over 46 games at High-A and Double-A substantially surpassed his .259/.304/.374 career mark in the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Elier Hernandez: Showing signs of growth
Hernandez was promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas after five-plus seasons at the minor league's lower levels, and the Royals still believe in his tools and makeup, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports. Hernandez has been all but forgotten since signing as a teenager in 2011 out of the Dominican Republic, but now 22 years old, he's showing signs of evolving into the player that once attracted the Royals. "We say all the time: The road map or the timetable for these guys, it's different for all of them," said J.J. Picollo, the club's assistant general manager for player personnel. "With Elier, it just takes a little bit of time for him to adjust." A 6-foot-3, 200-pound outfielder, he possesses above-average speed and the ability to play all three outfield positions. Hernandez hit .306 with four home runs, seven doubles, three triples and 27 RBI over 30 games at High-A Wilmington before being promoted.... See More ... See Less
