  • Brewers' Willy Adames: Could return from IL on Thursday

Adames (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Sunday and could be reinstated from the 7-day injured list as soon as Thursday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Adames is slated to serve as Wisconsin's designated hitter Sunday in what will be his first game action since he sustained a concussion after being struck by a line drive off the bat of teammate Brian Anderson while he was spectating in the dugout in a May 26 game against the Giants. The 27-year-old has seemingly made strong progress in his recovery over the past week and a half, and heading out on a rehab assignment marks the final hurdle he'll need to clear before being activated. Assuming Adames experiences no setbacks coming out of Sunday's contest, he'll shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Nashville, where he's expected to make starts at shortstop Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Brewers' Willy Adames: Does light workout Tuesday

Adames (concussion) went through a light workout Tuesday in Milwaukee, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. It was the first workout of any kind for Adames since he suffered a concussion when he got struck by a foul ball in the dugout last Friday against the Giants. "He's got to pass some tests," Brewers manager Craig Counsell told reporters Tuesday evening while declining to offer an exact timetable for the shortstop's return. Adames is first eligible to be activated from the 7-day concussion injured list this coming Saturday.

Adames (head) was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Saturday. Adames was leaning on the dugout railing Friday when he was struck in the head by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Brian Anderson. He suffered a concussion, but the good news is that Adames was alert and responsive throughout the evening, and he did not suffer any fractures. Andruw Monasterio was called up from Triple-A Nashville to provide depth to the infield while Adames recovers after the freak accident.

  • Brewers' Willy Adames: Heading to concussion list

Adames (head) will be placed on the 7-day injured list with a concussion after leaving Friday's game against the Giants, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. A line drive off the bat of Brian Anderson in the second inning rocketed into the Brewers dugout and struck Adames in the head, and he was taken to a hospital to be evaluated. The positive news is that Adames has no fractures and he's been alert throughout, and while he will remain in the hospital overnight, he's expected to be released Saturday according to manager Craig Counsell. Adames will miss at least a week, but things could have been much worse given the circumstances.

Adames was struck by a liner off the bat of Brian Anderson in a scary moment in the second inning. While the shortstop should be considered day-to-day at this stage, the severity of the injury and how long he might be out won't be determined until after the testing is complete.
