  • Twins' Matt Bowman: Invited to Twins' camp

Bowman signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Thursday and received an invitation to major-league spring training, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. In 2023, Bowman returned to the majors for the first time since 2019, though he appeared in just three games for the Yankees and surrendered four earned runs in four innings. The 32-year-old reliever posted a 3.99 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in Triple-A and will now have an outside shot at making the Twins' Opening Day roster.

  • Matt Bowman: Elects free agency

Bowman elected to become a free agent Monday. Bowman had been removed from the Yankees' 40-man roster and will exercise his right to free agency rather than accept an outright assignment. The sinkerballer allowed four runs across four innings for the Yanks this season, which was his first action in the big league since 2019.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Outrighted off 40-man

The Yankees outrighted Bowman to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. Bowman appeared in three games for the Yankees toward the end of the season, giving up four runs across four innings -- his first MLB action since 2019. With a career 4.13 ERA and a decent minor-league resume, Bowman could draw interest from other organizations if he elects to become a free agent.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Returns to big-league bullpen

The Yankees recalled Bowman from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday. Bowman had been optioned back to Triple-A on Sept. 14, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the Yankees ahead of their series finale versus the Diamondbacks after fellow reliever Tommy Kahnle (shoulder) was moved to the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Assuming Bowman sticks with the Yankees throughout the final week of the regular season, he'll likely be relegated to a middle-relief role.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Optioned to Triple-A

The Yankees optioned Bowman to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Bowman allowed three earned runs over one inning of relief as the Yankees fell 5-0 in the first half of Thursday's doubleheader against the Red Sox. Luke Weaver, claimed off waivers from the Mariners on Tuesday, will officially join New York's active roster ahead of the nightcap in Boston.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Re-signs with NYY

Bowman signed a one-year, major-league contract with the Yankees on Thursday and was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Bowman opted out of a previous minor-league agreement with the Yankees last weekend, but he's back in the fold now on a major-league deal and might get a look in the Bronx at some point down the stretch. The 32-year-old reliever hasn't appeared in a game at the MLB level since 2019.

  • Matt Bowman: Opting out of contract

Bowman informed the Yankees on Sunday that he will opt out of his contract, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. The team now has 72 hours to decide whether to add Bowman to the 26-man active roster or let him walk. Bowman has pitched to a 3.29 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 36:18 K:BB in 30 appearances with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. He has not appeared in the majors since 2019 with Cincinnati.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Shifted to minors camp

Bowman was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Yankees on Tuesday. After not having pitched since 2019 due to elbow problems, Bowman got hit around quite a bit during the spring, allowing six earned runs through just 4.2 innings. The 31-year-old righty will likely open the season in Triple-A to knock the rust off, and he could potentially join the Yankees later in the season if all goes well.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Re-signs with Yankees

Bowman re-signed with the Yankees on a minor-league contract Friday. Bowman hasn't pitched anywhere since 2019, as his career has been sidetracked by elbow problems. It would appear that he could finally be healthy now, although he'll have plenty of rust to knock off before being a consideration for the Yankees.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Won't pitch in 2022

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre transferred Bowman (elbow) from the 60-day injured list to the full-season IL on Tuesday, Matt Kardos of PinstripedProspects.com reports. Bowman underwent Tommy John surgery in September 2020, but after sitting out the entire 2021 campaign, he was expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training. The veteran right-hander never progressed as well as the Yankees had hoped, however, and he'll end up missing his second season in a row as a result. Now 31 years old and having not pitched in the majors -- or at any level -- since 2019, Bowman's playing career could be in question.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Shifts to injured list

Bowman (elbow) was placed on the injured list at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports. Bowman signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees in December 2020 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and he has yet to receive full clearance. He last pitched in the majors during the 2019 campaign and had a 3.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 25:13 K:BB over 32 innings. It's unclear when the 30-year-old is expected to return to full health, but he could be a factor in New York's bullpen later in the season.

  • Yankees' Matt Bowman: Inks minors deal

Bowman (elbow) signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Monday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Bowman went under the knife in September, and he'll be forced to miss likely the entire 2021 campaign while on the mend. Per Nightengale, Bowman will make $900,000 if he's in the big leagues in 2022.

  • Reds' Matt Bowman: Outrighted to minors

Bowman (elbow) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. The 29-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-September, so it's not a major surprise the Reds won't keep him on the 40-man roster over the offseason. Bowman could ready to return late in the 2021 campaign, but there's a real chance he misses the entire season.

  • Reds' Matt Bowman: Tommy John surgery on tap

Reds manager David Bell said Monday that Bowman (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery later this week, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. After failing to win a spot on the Reds' Opening Day roster coming out of summer camp, the Reds later shifted him to the injured list after he was diagnosed with a sprained right elbow. Bowman had been cleared to resume a throwing program in August, but since the right-hander wasn't progressing as well as the Reds hoped, surgery was ordered up. The procedure will most likely keep Bowman sidelined through the end of the 2021 campaign, though he'll have a slight chance at pitching in some minor-league rehab games at the tail end of next season. According to John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds will remove Bowman from their 60-man roster pool, and there's a good chance the reliever will be non-tendered this winter.

  • Reds' Matt Bowman: Set to face hitters soon

Bowman (elbow) will throw one more bullpen session at the Reds' alternate training site this week before testing himself against hitters, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Bowman won't be eligible to return from the 45-day injured list until Sept. 6, but based on where he currently stands in his recovery from a sprained right elbow, he looks like he's on track to be ready to go in the minimum amount of time. He made 27 appearances out of the Cincinnati bullpen in 2019, posting a 3.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 32 innings.

  • Reds' Matt Bowman: Shifts to 45-day IL

Bowman (elbow) was transferred to the 45-day injured list Friday. The 29-year-old was placed on the 10-day IL with a right elbow sprain Thursday, and he's apparently looking at an extended absence. Bowman still has a chance to return this season, but he won't be seeing the game action until at least September.

  • Reds' Matt Bowman: Placed on injured list

Bowman was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow sprain Thursday. Bowman was optioned to the Reds' alternate training site earlier in July, but it was determined that the right-hander suffered the injury prior to being sent down. As a result, the option was reversed, and he'll instead land on the major-league injured list. Either way, he'll be sidelined from major-league action for now. No timetable has been determined for his return to action.

  • Reds' Matt Bowman: Assigned to secondary site

Bowman was optioned to the Reds' alternate summer camp site Friday. Bowman won't be on the Reds' roster to start the year. He was low on the team's depth chart to begin with and missed time early in camp with elbow soreness, so it's not too surprising that he isn't considered one of the team's top options.

  • Reds' Matt Bowman: Returns from elbow soreness

Bowman threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Tuesday after missing the start of summer camp with elbow soreness, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Bowman already had an uphill battle to make the team for Opening Day, even with the expanded rosters. This elbow problem probably keeps him on the taxi squad once the season begins.
