Phillips elected free agency Monday. Phillips was removed from the Angels' 40-man roster and has exercised his right to elect free agency rather than accept an outright assignment. The veteran outfielder has collected a career .619 OPS over parts of seven big-league seasons.... See More ... See Less

Angels' Brett Phillips: Loses grip on everyday role
Phillips is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. The lefty-hitting Phillips will head to the bench for the fourth time in five games, with all four absences coming against right-handed pitching. He appears to have lost hold of his regular role in center field, with Jo Adell having supplanted Phillips as the Angels' preferred option at the position while Mickey Moniak (back) remains on the injured list.... Angels' Brett Phillips: Not starting Friday
Phillips isn't in the Angels' lineup Friday against the Twins, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Phillips will get a chance to clear his head after going 0-for-11 with eight strikeouts over his last three games. Jo Adell will get the nod in center field and bat fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Brett Phillips: Clubs homer in loss
Phillips went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Tigers. Phillips has done pretty well over his 10 games since he was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake, going 10-for-32 (.313) with three homers, four RBI and six runs scored. His ninth-inning blast Saturday sent the game to an extra inning, though the Angels ultimately lost anyway. The outfielder is slashing .244/.346/.467 over 52 plate appearances this season.... Angels' Brett Phillips: Homers Wednesday
Phillips went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss against the Mariners. Phillips opened the scoring in the third inning with a solo homer off Luis Castillo, his second long ball in 28 games this season. The 29-year-old outfielder has made eight straight starts since he was recalled from Triple-A on Sept. 6, going 8-for-25 (.320) in that span. While Phillips should continue to see playing time with the injury-depleted Angels, his career OPS of .627 offers little upside for fantasy purposes.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Brett Phillips: Nabs eighth consecutive start
Phillips will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. With Mickey Moniak (back) and Shohei Ohtani (oblique) having not started in the past week and with Mike Trout (wrist) still on the injured list, Phillips has been one of the prime beneficiaries from a playing-time standpoint. Phillips, who will pick up his eighth straight start in the outfield Wednesday, has gone 6-for-22 (.273 average) with one home run, two RBI and four runs. Though he's performed well thus far since his call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake earlier this month, Phillips is striking out at a 44 percent clip, which suggests his batting average could soon be trending downward.... Angels' Brett Phillips: Goes yard in win
Phillips went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Guardians. Phillips has gotten on base in all four games since he was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake, going 4-for-12 with two walks and two RBI in that span. His homer Saturday was his first of the season over 30 plate appearances, and just his fourth hit. He was mainly used as a defensive replacement early in the year, but Phillips has seen a little run of action in center field with Mike Trout (wrist) and Mickey Moniak (back) unavailable.... Angels' Brett Phillips: Contract selected by Halos
The Angels selected Phillips' contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. Phillips was outrighted to Salt Lake in May after being designated for assignment by the Angels, but he'll receive another chance in the big leagues late in the season. The 29-year-old is likely to work as a reserve outfielder and defensive replacement given his career .616 OPS in the big leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Brett Phillips: Outrighted to Triple-A
Phillips cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake by the Angels on Wednesday, Taylor Blake Ward of The Sporting Tribune reports. Phillips has the option to reject the outright assignment and elect free agency, but that seems unlikely since it would mean forfeiting his $1.2 million salary. Instead, he'll almost certainly report to Salt Lake where he'll serve as outfield depth.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Brett Phillips: Removed from roster
Phillips was designated for assignment by the Angels on Saturday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Phillips gets the boot to make room for Jared Walsh, with Walsh coming off the injured list before Saturday's game against the Twins. Phillips could see interest from a team looking for outfield depth, but if he goes unclaimed he will likely report to Triple-A Salt Lake to provide that depth for the Angels in the minors.... Angels' Brett Phillips: Gets rare start
Phillies is starting in center field and batting ninth for the Angels on Thursday against the Cardinals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. He'll patrol center field while Mike Trout gets a day off. Phillips is still looking for his first hit of the season, as he's 0-for-7 with three walks, an RBI, two runs, two steals and six strikeouts.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Brett Phillips: Swipes two bags against Nats
Phillips went 0-for-1 with two walks, a run scored, an RBI and two solen bases in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Nationals. Getting his first start of the season in center field and hitting ninth, Phillips scored the game's first run by stealing second and third base in the third inning and coming home on a throwing error by Washington catcher Keibert Ruiz. The pilfers were his first of the year, and they came before his first hit. Phillips' speed can be an asset, but he'll need an injury ahead of him in the Angels' outfield to get enough playing time to be useful even in deep fantasy formats.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Brett Phillips: Nabs roster spot
Phillips appears to have made the Angels' Opening Day roster with Mickey Moniak and Jo Adell recently optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake, Rhett Bolllinger of MLB.com reports. Phillips had a hard time offensively this spring, slashing .133/.235/.289 with 20 strikeouts in 51 plate appearances. However, both Moniak and Adell have one remaining minor-league option year, so the Angels ultimately decided to stick with Phillips as their fourth outfielder. The veteran slashed just .144/.217/.249 over 225 plate appearances last season, and he may need to show some progress offensively to keep a spot on the roster.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Brett Phillips: Signs with Halos
Phillips signed a one-year, $1.2 million deal with the Angels on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Despite slashing just .144/.217/.249 across 225 plate appearances last season, Phillips will join the Angels on a major-league deal. He has four of the five tools, with the hit tool being his major weakness, but Phillips' defense and intangibles earned him a spot on the Angels' bench to open the season.... See More ... See Less -
Brett Phillips: Seeking new opportunity
Phillips elected free agency Wednesday, per Triple-A Norfolk's official site. Phillips was traded to the Orioles on Aug. 2, but he saw only 17 plate appearances with the club prior to being cast off the 40-man roster. All told, he hit only .144/.217/.249 across 225 plate appearances between the Rays and Orioles this season. Phillips will likely be seeking a minor-league deal during the offseason.... See More ... Orioles' Brett Phillips: Accepts outright assignment
Phillips cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports. Phillips was cast off the Orioles' 40-man roster Sunday but will remain in the organization after he went unclaimed on waivers. He's slashed just .144/.217/.249 with five homers, 22 runs, 15 RBI and seven stolen bases over 83 major-league games this year but will attempt to sort things out in the minors.... See More ... Orioles' Brett Phillips: Designated for assignment
Phillips was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Friday. Phillips was traded to the Orioles on Aug. 2, but he will now be placed on waivers. Other teams will be able to claim him, otherwise he will report to Triple-A Norfolk or be released outright. The 28-year-old owns a .144 average with five homers, 15 RBI, 22 runs scored and seven stolen bases over 83 games with the Rays and Orioles this season.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Brett Phillips: Returns to reserve role
Phillips is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports. Considering that the lefty-hitting Phillips has gone 0-for-34 against left-handed pitching this season, he wouldn't have been a candidate to start Monday against southpaw Yusei Kikuchi even if Austin Hays (oblique) required another day off. However, Hays' return to the lineup Monday means that Phillips is likely to handle a reserve role against right-handers moving forward. Phillips had started each of the Orioles' three weekend games against the Pirates, going 2-for-9 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Brett Phillips: Filling in for Austin Hays
Phillips will start in left field and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Pirates, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Phillips will pick up his third consecutive start after going 2-for-6 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in the first two contests of the series, but his stay in Baltimore's regular lineup will likely come to an end as soon as Austin Hays (oblique) is ready to play. Hays is on the bench Sunday, but he ran, hit and threw Saturday and looks poised to avoid a stint on the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Brett Phillips: Shipped to Baltimore
Phillips was sent from the Rays to the Orioles in exchange for cash considerations Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Phillips was designated for assignment Monday after striking out 40.9 percent of the time while slashing .147/.225/.250 in 75 games. The 28-year-old has flashed power and speed alongside good outfield defense in the past, but his career 37.5 percent strikeout rate means he fits best in a bench role.... See More ... See Less
