The former first-round pick will be a depth option with Triple-A Louisville assuming he stays in the organization.

The 26-year-old didn't get much on his first homer of the year, which traveled an estimated 320 feet around Fenway Park's Pesky Pole. Hardly known for his power -- he has seven homers in 128 career big-league games -- Martin accounted for Baltimore's only run. He's gone just 5-for-23 (.217) in eight contests since coming off the IL, although he could get a longer look at shortstop if Ramon Urias (upper leg) continues to miss time.
