Brown is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. The Athletics have been running a five-man committee of late between the three outfield spots and designated hitter, with all of Brown, Ramon Laureano, JJ Bleday, Esteury Ruiz and Brent Rooker having handled at least semi-regular roles. Ruiz's playing time appears to be the most secure of the group, and though Brown finds himself as the odd man out versus a right-hander (Sandy Alcantara) on Sunday, Rooker seems to be losing the most playing time of late. Since returning from the injured list May 22, Brown is slashing just .132/.214/.289, but his .504 OPS over the past two weeks is still better than Rooker's mark (.447) over that same stretch.... Athletics' Seth Brown: Day off versus lefty
Brown is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus Atlanta, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Brown will take a seat as the Athletics face off against Atlanta left-hander Jared Shuster on Wednesday. Brent Rooker will take over in left field while righty bat Aledmys Diaz enters the lineup at designated hitter and bats sixth as Oakland goes for the sweep.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Logs second steal
Brown went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 10-1 loss to the Astros. Brown has gone 5-for-23 (.217) in his first seven games back from an oblique injury. The outfielder has at least reclaimed a starting role in left field, and he's provided a little pop with two home runs in that span, but he's not hitting particularly well. For the season, he has a .208/.250/.415 slash line with three homers, two steals, seven RBI and five runs scored through 56 plate appearances. It'll likely remain difficult for him to compile counting stats in such a weak offense.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Homers in back-to-back games
Brown went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Astros. He took Astros starter Hunter Brown deep in the seventh inning for the Athletics' only offense of the game. Brown has homered in back-to-back games, as it appears he's getting his timing back after a six-week stint on the injured list due to an oblique injury. He's still hitting just .217 on the year, adding a .707 OPS, three long balls, seven RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base through 13 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Accounts for offense in loss
Brown went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Mariners. Brown took Logan Gilbert deep in the first inning, but the Athletics mustered just one hit after his homer. Brown is now 3-for-12 with three RBI over four contests since returning from an oblique injury. He's slashing .214/.250/.405 with two homers, five RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base through 44 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Heads to bench Monday
Brown is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners. The lefty-hitting Brown will hit the bench with the Mariners bringing southpaw Marco Gonzales to the hill for the second game of the series. Brown made his return from the 15-day injured list in Monday's 11-2 loss and was productive in his first game with the big club in six weeks, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Two hits in Monday's loss
Brown went 2-for-4 with one RBI in Monday's 11-2 loss to the Mariners. Brown was the only Athletic to record multiple hits, but it was a groundout that led to his RBI. He'd been out since early April while recovering from a left oblique strain. The outfielder is slashing .235/.278/.382 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored through 36 plate appearances. Brown should have a chance to reclaim an everyday role, though it wouldn't be shocking if the 30-year-old gets a day or two off over the next couple of weeks to ease him back in.... See More ... Athletics' Seth Brown: Back from injured list
The Athletics activated Brown (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Brown has missed most of this season with a left oblique strain but has been cleared to return to action after getting through four rehab games with no issues. Jordan Diaz was sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Rejoining team in Seattle
Brown (oblique) will rejoin the Athletics on Monday in Seattle after a successful four-game rehab assignment, and a determination will then be made on his activation, the team's official site reports. Brown played three rehab games with Single-A Stockton and one with Triple-A Las Vegas, going 5-for-13 with a walk and four runs in that span. Brown was also able to log a full nine innings in right field for the Aviators on Saturday and reported no residual effects, seemingly supporting the notion he could be ready to return to the big-league club for the series opener against the Mariners on Monday.... Athletics' Seth Brown: To begin rehab games Saturday
Brown (oblique) is slated to begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Las Vegas, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Brown is a little over four weeks into the estimated 4-to-6 week timetable that the A's put forth when he suffered a Grade 2 left oblique strain in early April. He'll probably get around 25-30 plate appearances on the farm before returning to Oakland's active roster. The 30-year-old had one home run and one stolen base in eight games prior to the injury. He posted 25 homers and 11 steals in 150 games last season.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Likely out 4-to-6 weeks
Brown is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks after he was diagnosed Tuesday with a Grade 2 left oblique strain, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. A talent-bereft Athletics lineup that can ill afford to lose anyone will be without one of the few viable bats for at least a month. With Brown on the shelf for a while, Oakland appears poised to roll with a platoon of Conner Capel and Brent Rooker in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Move to IL official
The Athletics placed Brown on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left oblique strain. Brown's absence from the lineup in Sunday's 11-0 loss to the Rays was initially attributed to rib-cage discomfort, but the Athletics later confirmed the outfielder tweaked an oblique muscle. The recovery timeline for oblique strains can be volatile, but if Brown's injury is on the mild side, he could have a chance at being ready to return from the shelf in the minimum 10 days. In any case, the Athletics are likely to turn to Conner Capel and Brent Rooker to pick up most of the reps in left field while Brown is on the IL.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Ticketed for IL
The Athletics plan to place Brown on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique injury, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. In turn, the Athletics will recall Kevin Smith to take Brown's place on the roster, though neither transaction may not be made official until shortly before Monday's game against the Orioles. Brown hurt his oblique on a check swing in Saturday's game against the Rays, and he'll be out at least a week-plus as he recovers. Conner Capel will likely see more playing time going forward with Brown out of action.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Dealing with rib issue
Brown is out of the lineup and is likely not available off the bench Sunday against the Rays. He is being evaluated after feeling discomfort in his rib cage area, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Brown felt the discomfort on a check swing in Saturday's 11-0 loss. The outfielder should be considered day-to-day until the results of the evaluation are announced. Conner Capel will enter the lineup in Brown's stead Sunday, starting in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Gets Sunday off
Brown is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Brown will be taking a seat for the first time this season after starting in left field or at designated hitter in each of the Athletics' eight games to date while slashing .200/.250/.367 with a home run, a stolen base, two runs and two RBI. Conner Capel will draw the start in left field in Brown's stead.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Slugs game-tying blast in loss
Brown went 2-for-5 with a game-tying two-run home run in an extra-inning loss to the Guardians on Monday. Brown uncorked a 432-foot blast to center off Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase with Aledmys Diaz aboard and the Athletics down to their last out in the ninth, making him the hero for the time being. While Cleveland would go on to record the victory, Brown was able to snap out of a season-opening 0-for-7 funk in noteworthy fashion.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Productive in opener
Brown went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in the Athletics' win over the Angels on Thursday. Brown contributed one of two multi-hit efforts for the Athletics on the night, and he was responsible for the lone extra-base hit off Angels ace Shohei Ohtani. The stolen base was a nice season-opening bonus for fantasy managers and an encouraging early indicator Brown may run enough to exceed the career-high 11 swipes he logged in 2022.... See More ... Athletics' Seth Brown: Could play in outfield next week
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay announced that Brown, who has been dealing with shoulder soreness, could play in the outfield as soon as next Friday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Brown has not been able to play in the outfield since March 7. The outfielder will throw to the bases Wednesday, and if that goes well, he has a chance to back in the field by the end of next week. Brown would likely be the designated hitter if he can't get fully healthy by Opening Day, but everything points to him being in the outfield to start the year.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Singles in return to action
Brown (shoulder) started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 in a Cactus League win over the Rangers on Friday. Brown was held out of Cactus League action throughout the week while resting a sore shoulder, and although he's still not able to play the field, he's not having issues swinging a bat. The slugger sat out Saturday's loss to the Guardians, but he could be back in the field in coming days.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Seth Brown: Back in lineup as designated hitter
Brown (shoulder) is back in the Athletics' Cactus League lineup Friday at designated hitter, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Brown hadn't played since Sunday because of inflammation in his left shoulder. It only bothers him when he throws, so expect Brown to be limited to DH duty for a bit.... See More ... See Less
