Mayfield (undisclosed) went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Sugar Land after being activated from Triple-A Salt Lake's 7-day injured list. Mayfield had been sidelined for the past six weeks due to the unspecified injury. The 31-year-old utility man owns a .230/.279/.394 slash line over 179 plate appearances at Salt Lake this season.... Angels' Jack Mayfield: On minor-league injured list
Mayfield (undisclosed) was placed on the minor-league 7-day injured list Wednesday. It's not certain what prompted the IL move, though it should be noted that the journeyman infielder hasn't played since July 28. Mayfield had put together a modest five-game hitting streak with Triple-A Salt Lake prior to being placed on the injured list. He's slashed .186/.230/.271 with a home run, six RBI and a stolen base in 74 plate appearances in the majors this season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Unclaimed, assigned to Salt Lake
Mayfield went unclaimed on waivers and will report to Triple-A Salt Lake. After being designated for assignment Sunday, Mayfield went unclaimed on waivers and will remain with the organization. The 31-year-old has produced a .200 average with two homers, 14 RBI, 11 runs and two stolen bases over 100 at-bats with Salt Lake this season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Designated for assignment
Mayfield was designated for assignment by the Angels on Sunday. Mayfield was sent down by the Angels on June 19, and he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster after the team traded for Touki Toussaint on Sunday. Over 24 Triple-A appearances this year, Mayfield has slashed .200/.255/.340 with two homers, 14 RBI, 11 runs and two stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Moves back to minors
The Angels optioned Mayfield to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. Mayfield became the odd man out for the Angels with the team needing to open up a spot on the 26-man active roster for left-hander Kenny Rosenberg, who was recalled from Salt Lake to start Sunday's series finale in Seattle. During his two-day stay with the Halos, Mayfield went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Recalled and starting Friday
Mayfield was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday and will bat ninth and play third base against the Mariners. Mayfield was optioned Friday but is back less than a week later with Anthony Rendon shut down for season-ending wrist surgery. Mayfield has slashed .194/.239/.284 in 22 games this season, which doesn't make a case for regular playing time, but he could start at the hot corner against lefties such as Friday's starter Robbie Ray.... Angels' Jack Mayfield: Sent down Friday
Mayfield was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. Mayfield was recalled by the Angels on Wednesday, and he went 0-for-8 with a run and two strikeouts over two games during his stint with the big-league club. However, he'll head back to the Triple-A club after Anthony Rendon was activated Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Back with big-league club
Mayfield was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake and is starting at second base Wednesday against the Red Sox. The 31-year-old was demoted to Triple-A in mid-May but will rejoin the Angels on Wednesday with Luis Rengifo headed to the paternity list. Mayfield has appeared in 20 MLB games this season and has a .220/.270/.322 slash line with one home run, six RBI and one stolen base.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Sent to Triple-A
Mayfield was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Oakland. He had hit .129 with seven strikeouts and one walk in his last 31 at-bats. Matt Duffy was activated from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Swipes first bag
Mayfield went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-2 extra-inning loss to the Rays. Getting the start in right field and batting seventh, Mayfield was able to steal his first bag of the year off the battery of Shane McClanahan and Francisco Mejia. The 31-year-old utility player has started three straight games, all in right, while Taylor Ward nursed a hamstring injury. Mayfield will be in the middle-infield mix as long as David Fletcher (hip) is on the shelf, though he faces a lot of competition from Tyler Wade, Andrew Velazquez and Luis Rengifo for at-bats.... Angels' Jack Mayfield: Makes third straight start
Mayfield will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Rays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. With Taylor Ward (hamstring) once again on the bench, Mayfield will pick up his third start in a row. The Angels are hopeful that Ward will be back in action after Thursday's off day, so Mayfield's run of regular playing time could soon come to an end.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Returns to big club
The Angels recalled Mayfield from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Though he was optioned to Salt Lake on Friday, Mayfield is eligible to rejoin the Angels on short notice after the team placed Matt Duffy on the COVID-19 injured list prior to Sunday's game against the White Sox. Mayfield should be up with the Angels for the duration of Duffy's absence, but the former is unlikely to see meaningful at-bats while all of Anthony Rendon, David Fletcher, Andrew Velazquez and Tyler Wade are ahead of him in the pecking order for playing time at second base, third base or shortstop.... Angels' Jack Mayfield: Optioned to Triple-A
Mayfield was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Mayfield made the Angels' Opening Day roster this year and appeared in 10 games for the big-league club. He hit .281 with a homer, a triple, a double, six runs and three RBI, but he didn't have consistent playing time and will head to the minors after David Fletcher (hip) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.... Angels' Jack Mayfield: Clubs solo homer Sunday
Mayfield went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to Houston on Sunday. Mayfield drove a Jose Urquidy pitch over the wall in center field in the second inning to provide the Angels' only run of the contest. The long ball was Mayfield's third straight hit to begin the campaign, though he went 0-for-3 in his remaining plate appearances. The 31-year-old was somewhat surprisingly plugged into the cleanup spot Sunday despite entering the contest with only 12 homers over 401 career big-league at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Hitting fourth
Mayfield is starting at third base and hitting fourth Sunday against the Astros, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Mayfield has appeared in two games this season, though Sunday's start will be his first of the campaign. He'll immediately slot into a prominent spot in the order, directly following Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout and Jared Walsh.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Makes Opening Day roster
Manager Joe Maddon said Saturday that Mayfield has made the Angels' Opening Day roster, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Mayfield has performed relatively well in spring training, slashing .292/.346/.625 with two homers, two doubles, eight RBI, three runs and two walks in 12 Cactus League games. He appeared in 87 games between the Mariners and Angels last year, and he'll be part of a platoon at second base to begin the 2022 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Swipes two bags Sunday
Mayfield went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases in Sunday's 7-3 victory versus the Mariners. Mayfield was one of three Angels to knock multiple hits in the season finale, and he plated the team's second run with an infield single in the first inning. The 31-year-old began the campaign in the minors and was DFA'd by both the Angels and Mariners during the season. However, he became a bright spot for Los Angeles after he latched back on with the club in mid-June, eventually claiming a role as the club's starting third baseman. Mayfield collected at least one hit in 11 of his final 12 contests, slashing .280/.315/.400 with a home run, 11 RBI and three stolen bases over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Two doubles, two RBI
Mayfield went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Astros. Mayfield has now hit safely in three games in a row, and this was the first time he recorded two extra-base hits in the same game all year. The shortstop hasn't been much of a threat at the plate of late though, hitting .200 with a .639 OPS across 20 games this month.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Cranks 10th home run
Mayfield went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 10-5 loss to the Astros. Mayfield went deep off Jose Urquidy in the second inning to put the Angels on the board. In addition, he walked in the sixth frame. It is just the second time he got on base twice in his last nine games. The 30-year-old is slashing .211/.277/.432 with 10 long balls, 26 RBI and 25 runs scored in 240 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Swats grand slam
Mayfield went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Monday's 8-7 win over the Yankees. Mayfield flipped a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead with one swing of the bat after taking Corey Kluber yard in the fourth inning for a grand slam. Mayfield has nine homers in 43 games since being recalled by the Angels on July 6 but is slashing just .227/.281/.496 with 14 extra-base hits, 21 RBI, 16 runs scored, a steal and 7:31 BB:K. The 30-year-old likely had the biggest hit of his career Monday but has struggled to find success at the plate overall with limited action in the league since 2019.... See More ... See Less
