Nance (shoulder) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Marlins' Tommy Nance: Recalled, goes on 60-day IL
Nance (undisclosed) was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Jacksonville and placed on the 60-day injured list, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Matt Moore, whom the Marlins claimed off waivers from the Guardians on Tuesday afternoon. There is no exact diagnosis, but Nance has battled shoulder issues throughout the 2023 season and is now officially done for the year.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Sent to minors
Nance was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports. Nance was activated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday after missing time with a shoulder injury, but he failed to make his 2023 debut. The right-hander was bumped to the minors to make room for George Soriano, who was reinstated from the paternity list Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Activated from injured list
Nance (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance has been out all season with a shoulder injury and dealt with multiple starts and stops along the way during his rehab. He reeled off 7.2 scoreless innings during his recent rehab stint with Triple-A Jacksonville, though, clearing the way for his addition to the Marlins' bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Starts rehab assignment
Nance (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with the Marlins' Florida Complex League affiliate on Wednesday. Nance allowed a hit and a walk but struck out three over two scoreless innings in his first outing with the FCL Marlins. The righty reliever has been out all season with shoulder issues, having had to be shut down after one appearance in his initial rehab assignment back in May. He'll need to avoid more setbacks this time around and figures to need a handful of outings before being an option for the major-league bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Completes side session
Nance (shoulder) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance has resided on the injured list all season due to a right shoulder strain, though he was able to make a minor-league rehab appearance May 12 before being shut down following a setback. He's beginning to ramp up again and will likely need to complete a few more side sessions before eventually graduating to facing hitters in live batting practice and then restarting a rehab assignment. Nance may face an uphill battle to make it back from the IL before the end of July.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Ready to resume throwing
Nance (shoulder) will resume a throwing program this week, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance had to be pulled off a rehab assignment last month because of renewed soreness in his right shoulder, but he's ready to test things out again after a shutdown period. He'll need to restart a rehab assignment once he's deemed to be game-ready, so he's likely multiple weeks away from being activated from the 60-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Still feeling soreness
Nance is still feeling soreness in his injured shoulder and has been recalled from his rehab assignment, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance began a rehab assignment 10 days ago, but he has not pitched since and seemingly has not put his injury behind him. He will undergo an evaluation to determine what the next step will be in his recovery.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: To throw bullpen Saturday
Nance (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a 35-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Miami recently transferred Nance from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list as he continues his recovery from a February shoulder strain, but he's making steady progress and might be ready for activation around the time he's first eligible in late May.... Marlins' Tommy Nance: Shifts to 60-day IL
The Marlins transferred Nance (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Jeff Lindgren, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of Saturday's doubleheader with the Guardians. Nance has been working his way back from a right shoulder strain since late February and will now have to wait until at least the end of May before he can make his 2023 debut with the Marlins.... Marlins' Tommy Nance: Throws bullpen session
Nance (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance now has several bullpen sessions under his belt and should soon advance to a minor-league rehab assignment. He's missed the first three weeks of the 2023 regular season after developing some right shoulder soreness early in spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Ups pitch count in bullpen session
Nance (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a 30-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance had been limited to throwing a 20-pitch bullpen session last week, so he appears to be taking an incremental step forward as he works his way back from a sore right shoulder. The 32-year-old will likely handle a low-leverage role out of the Miami bullpen once activated from the 15-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Throws bullpen session
Nance (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance is working his way back from a shoulder issue and has finally progressed to mound work. He shouldn't be too far off from a rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Placed on 15-day IL
Nance (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27. Nance struggled with right shoulder soreness all spring and there is currently no timetable for his 2023 debut. He hung back at the Marlins' spring training complex in Florida when camp broke.... Marlins' Tommy Nance: Set for IL stint
The Marlins announced Sunday that Nance (shoulder) will remain at the team's spring camp in Jupiter, Fla. to begin the season and won't be part of the Opening Day roster, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance has yet to make an appearance during the Grapefruit League slate while he continues to battle right shoulder soreness. As a reliever, Nance isn't expected to require extensive ramp-up time, but his lack of game action to date suggests that he'll spend more than 15 days on the injured list to begin the campaign.... Marlins' Tommy Nance: Records win during return
Nance (1-3) earned the win in Thursday's 4-2 victory over the Brewers. He did not allow a run on one hit while striking out one over one inning. Nance allowed only a double from Tyrone Taylor in his return from the 15-day injured list (groin). The righty has been awesome during his last 12 outings, recording a 2.13 ERA over 12.2 innings. In addition, the 31-year-old has only allowed one baserunner over 2.2 innings during his last three appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Beginning rehab assignment
Nance (groin) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Nance is eligible to return from the injured list late this week, and the start of his rehab assignment signals that he'll likely be in the mix to rejoin the Marlins' bullpen prior to the end of the regular season. Since the right-hander usually has short appearances out of the bullpen, it seems likely that he'll be cleared to return following a brief rehab stint.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Starting bullpen game
Nance will start Friday's game against the Dodgers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The Marlins will employ a bullpen game Friday, and Nance will be the first pitcher on the mound. The 31-year-old has covered two or three frames in each of his last three outings and should have a similar workload versus Los Angeles.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Back in big leagues
Nance was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The right-hander was demoted to Jacksonville on Sunday, but he'll be able to rejoin the big-league club before spending the minimum 10 days in the minors since Garrett Cooper (concussion) was placed on the injured list. Nance has a 5.46 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 41:14 K:BB across 28 innings for Miami this year.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Reinstated prior to nightcap
Nance (groin) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list prior to the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Nance was on the injured list since July 24, but he began a rehab assignment in early August. He allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out three in three innings over two appearances in the minors and has now been cleared to rejoin the major-league club. He'll begin Saturday's nightcap on the mound but will likely serve as an opener since he hasn't pitched more than 2.1 innings in any outing this season.... See More ... See Less
