  • Giants' Camilo Doval: Earns 14th save

Doval picked up the save Sunday in Oakland, striking out one and allowing a walk and a hit in the ninth inning of a 6-4 victory. It was his 14th save in 16 attempts this season and just his second save since the beginning of July. The lack of saves recently has more to do with the Giants slumping than Doval's performance, as he's posted a 3.09 ERA and 17:6 K:BB since the beginning of July. For the season, the 25-year-old has a 3.00 ERA, matching his rate from last season, and a solid 57:19 K:BB in 45 innings.

  • Giants' Camilo Doval: Locks down 13th save

Doval allowed a hit and struck out three in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Cubs. This was Doval's second appearance since the All-Star break -- the Giants' seven-game losing streak entering Thursday had limited the need for manager Gabe Kapler to deploy the closer. Through 8.1 innings in July, Doval's been a little shaky, allowing four runs (two earned), eight hits and four walks while racking up 12 strikeouts. He's 13-for-15 in save chances with a 2.81 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 52:17 K:BB across 41.2 innings this season. This was the 25-year-old's first save in a month.

  • Giants' Camilo Doval: Handed fifth loss

Doval (3-5) allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings, taking the extra-inning loss versus the Brewers. Doval has allowed a run in four of his last five outings, though two of those four runs were unearned in extra-inning losses. He gave up an RBI single to Jonathan Davis in the 10th inning of Thursday's contest. Doval's recent struggles are a little concerning -- he hasn't logged a save since June 28, though the Giants' slump has been a factor in that as much as his own shaky pitching. He still has a 3.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB in 38.2 innings across 39 appearances while adding 12 saves, two holds and two blown saves.

Doval kept the game tied at 3-3 in the ninth inning, and Brandon Crawford hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the frame. This was Doval's first scoreless outing since June 28, though including Wednesday he's made just four appearances since that date due to the Giants' recent struggles. With Jake McGee designated for assignment and Tyler Rogers working more in the middle innings lately, Doval appears entrenched as the closer in San Francisco. He has a 3.19 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 45:16 K:BB through 36.2 innings while adding 12 saves, two holds and two blown saves in 38 outings.
