Romero landed on the injured list Saturday with right biceps tendinitis, Megan Ryan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Romero has allowed two runs on nine hits in five innings of relief work this season, striking out six while walking one. He doesn't have a clear recovery timeline yet, but biceps tendinitis can sometimes knock a player out for multiple months. Catcher Jose Godoy was called up to take Romero's place on the roster.... Romero was claimed off waivers by the Twins on Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Romero was designated for assignment by Washington last week, but he'll now compete for a spot in the Twins' bullpen ahead of the 2022 campaign. The right-hander mainly pitched at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2021, and he posted a 2.62 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 55 innings across 38 relief appearances. He got his first taste of major-league action by making five relief appearances for the Nationals late in the season. Romero was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Romero got his first taste of major-league action in 2021 and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out three in four innings with the Nationals.
