  • Giants' Bryce Johnson: Heads back to minors

The Giants optioned Johnson to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Even though the righty-hitting Johnson started in the outfield in each of the last three games during a lefty-heavy part of the Giants' schedule, San Francisco didn't have room for him on the roster with the team in need of extra relief arm following Tuesday's bullpen day. Luis Ortiz was called up from Triple-A to replace Johnson on the 28-man active roster.

  • Giants' Bryce Johnson: Recalled from Sacramento

Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. Johnson made his big-league debut in early August, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during his limited time with the team. The 26-year-old hasn't been particularly impressive at the Triple-A level, either, posting a 98 wRC+, though his 29 steals in 85 games offer a path to fantasy relevance if he secures more playing time than expected.

  • Giants' Bryce Johnson: Optioned to Triple-A

Johnson was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. Johnson was called up by the Giants on Wednesday, but he didn't appear in any games during his stint on the major-league roster. He should see more consistent playing time in the minors, while Luis Gonzalez was recalled to take Johnson's place on the active roster.

  • Giants' Bryce Johnson: Recalled from minors

Johnson (back) was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Johnson landed on the 7-day injured list at Sacramento since Aug. 8, but he's ostensibly healthy now and will join the major-league club as outfield depth after Brandon Belt (knee) was placed on the 10-day IL. The rookie appeared in four games with the Giants earlier in the season and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

  • Giants' Bryce Johnson: On MiLB IL, could get call-up

Johnson, who has been on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list since Aug. 8 due to back tightness, joined the Giants' taxi squad Wednesday and could soon be formally recalled from the minors, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. While speaking to Slusser, Johnson suggested that he's recovered from the back injury and is on standby for a promotion to the big club in the event Brandon Belt (knee) is placed on the 10-day IL. If added to the 26-man active roster, the switch-hitting Johnson would likely serve as a short-side platoon option in the outfield for the Giants, which have three left-handed hitters as their primary starters from left to right (Joc Pederson, Mike Yastrzemski and LaMonte Wade).

  • Giants' Bryce Johnson: Called up, making MLB debut

Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento and is starting in center field and batting ninth Wednesday against the Dodgers. The 26-year-old has a .283/.352/.397 slash line with five home runs, 24 RBI and 24 stolen bases at Triple-A this year and will make his big-league debut against lefty Julio Urias and Los Angeles. Johnson could fill a short-side platoon in the outfield since most of San Francisco's outfielders hit left-handed.
