  • Phillies' Max Lazar: Progressing in throwing program

    Lazar (oblique) is throwing bullpen sessions in Clearwater, Florida, per MLB.com. Lazar stepped away from Team Israel during the World Baseball Classic in March after feeling discomfort in his oblique, and he proceeded to open the season on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique. The 26-year-old right-hander is expected to function as bullpen depth for the Phillies once healthy.

  • Phillies' Max Lazar: Shelved with strained oblique

    The Phillies placed Lazar (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Lazar strained his left oblique during World Baseball Classic play, and as a result, will get a late start to the season. Manager Rob Thomson indicated previously that it's a minor strain, so Lazar could be ready to return when first eligible April 6.

  • Phillies' Max Lazar: Misses Opening Day roster

    The Phillies optioned Lazar to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday. Lazar was in the running for a spot in Philadelphia's Opening Day bullpen after registering a 4.61 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 13.2 innings with the big club last season. However, he will ultimately miss the cut after surrendering seven runs over 3.2 innings this spring. The 25-year-old could still return to Philadelphia sometime this season if/when the Phillies' bullpen depth is tested.

His poor performance will cause him to be sent back to the minors while Kolby Allard rejoins the big-league squad to start Saturday's game.

    The Phillies recalled Lazar from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. Philadelphia optioned Lazar to Triple-A on Saturday, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club two days later since outfielder Weston Wilson (personal) was placed on the paternity list in the a corresponding move. Lazar will likely serve as a low-leverage reliever while he's up with the Phillies.

    The Phillies optioned Lazar to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Lazar's first MLB stint came to an end Saturday, and he'll head back to Lehigh Valley having not allowed a run in 5.2 innings for the Phillies. His spot on the 26-man roster will go to Kolby Allard, who's being called up to make a spot start Sunday.
