Sanders signed a minor-league contract Thursday with the Giants. Sanders will be stationed at Triple-A Sacramento for now, but he could eventually get an opportunity in San Francisco given the team's poor bullpen work. The 27-year-old right-hander posted a 3.07 ERA with 12 strikeouts across his first 14.2 major-league innings last season with the Rays. However, his minor-league numbers from 2022 weren't nearly as encouraging with 22 earned runs allowed in 27 outings.... See More ... See Less

Orioles' Phoenix Sanders: Clears waivers
Sanders was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. He'll remain in Baltimore's organization upon clearing waivers after the Orioles designated him for assignment Saturday. The Orioles previously claimed Sanders off waivers from the Rays on Aug. 24, but he pitched exclusively at Triple-A Norfolk before losing his spot on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Phoenix Sanders: Designated for assignment
Sanders was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Saturday. Sanders was sent to the minors Aug. 25, and he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster after the Orioles claimed Anthony Castro off waivers from the Guardians on Saturday. It seems likely that Sanders will remain at Triple-A Norfolk if he goes unclaimed on waivers.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Phoenix Sanders: Dispatched to minors
The Orioles optioned Sanders to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. Baltimore didn't have an immediate opening for Sanders in the big-league bullpen after claiming him off waivers from Tampa Bay on Wednesday, so he'll begin his tenure with his new organization at the Triple-A level. Sanders previously made eight appearances at the big-league level for the Rays, accruing a 3.07 ERA and 12:3 K:BB in 14.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Phoenix Sanders: Claimed by Orioles
Sanders was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Wednesday. Sanders was designated for assignment by the Rays on Monday but will land a spot on Baltimore's 40-man roster. He won't be available for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, and it's not yet clear whether he'll join the Orioles' bullpen since he was at Triple-A Durham prior to being cast off the Rays' 40-man roster. He's posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 30 innings over 25 appearances (one start) at the Triple-A level this year.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Phoenix Sanders: Booted off 40-man roster
The Rays designated Sanders for assignment Monday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. Sanders ceded his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Nick Anderson (elbow), who was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Durham. If he passes through waivers, Sanders will stick around in Durham with Anderson and work as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen. Sanders sports a 3.07 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 14.2 innings with the big club this season, but he's been less successful over a larger sample at Triple-A (5.40 ERA, 1.37 WHIP in 30 innings).... Rays' Phoenix Sanders: Sent back to minors
The Rays optioned Sanders to Triple-A Durham on Monday. Sanders likely wouldn't have been available out of the bullpen for the next day or two after he covered 1.2 innings and tossed 44 pitches in Sunday's 10-5 loss to the Reds, so the Rays elected to swap him off the active roster for a fresh arm. Right-hander Luke Bard was recalled from Durham in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Phoenix Sanders: Rejoins big club
Sanders was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Sanders was demoted to Durham on Monday but will rejoin Tampa Bay among a flurry of roster moves. The 27-year-old has appeared in seven games for the Rays this year and has pitched well with a 1.38 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB over 13 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Phoenix Sanders: Heads back to minors
Sanders was returned to Triple-A Durham on Monday. Sanders joined the Rays' bullpen for their weekend series in Toronto, and he tossed three scoreless innings over two appearances against the Blue Jays. Although he'll remain on the taxi squad, the right-hander will be cast off the active roster after Brooks Raley and Ryan Thompson were reinstated from the restricted list Monday.... See More ... Rays' Phoenix Sanders: Added to big-league roster
Sanders was called up from Triple-A Durham on Thursday. The 27-year-old will join the Rays ahead of their five-game series in Toronto, replacing the likes of Brooks Raley and Ryan Thompson, who are both unvaccinated and unable to enter Canada. Sanders produced a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with nine strikeouts in 10 innings over five appearances with the team earlier this season.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Phoenix Sanders: Reinstated, sent down
Sanders (back) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Sanders was placed on the injured list with low back spasms in early May, but he's back to full health after spending the minimum amount of time on the shelf. The right-hander has posted a 1.35 ERA and 0.65 WHIP in 6.2 innings over four appearances in Durham this year.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Phoenix Sanders: Scheduled for bullpen session
Sanders (back) will throw a bullpen session Monday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. Sanders was placed on the injured list May 3, but his absence is expected to be short. Prior to being sidelined, Sanders had maintained a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with a 9:2 K:BB across 10 innings in a multi-inning role out of the Rays' bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Phoenix Sanders: Moves up to bigs
The Rays selected Sanders' contract from Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Tampa Bay designated Dusten Knight for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster and 28-man active roster for Sanders, who will reach the majors for the first time. The 26-year-old right-hander is expected to serve as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen after he turned in a 3.38 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 80:11 K:BB across 64 frames with Durham in 2021....
