Williams signed a minor-league contract with the A's on Friday, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.
Williams spent the past couple seasons in the Cardinals organization and elected free agency after he posted a 6.52 ERA at the Triple-A level in 2022. The 28-year-old will provide organizational pitching depth for Oakland.

Williams (undisclosed) pitched a perfect inning and struck out three in Double-A Springfield's game versus Tulsa on Saturday.
Williams missed nearly three weeks with the injury, but he's good to go again. Across six appearances (four starts) for Springfield, he has a 3.66 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB in 19.2 innings.

It's unclear when or how Williams was hurt, but he hasn't pitched since April 30. The 27-year-old has logged a 3.86 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 18.2 innings this season, taking a step back to the Double-A level to re-calibrate as a starter after logging 37 relief appearances between Springfield and Triple-A Memphis last year.

Angels' Garrett Williams: Headed to Angels

Williams was traded to the Angels on Thursday as the player to be named later in exchange for Zack Cozart and Will Wilson.
Williams saw a heavy workload for Double-A Richmond in 2019, pitching 110 innings with a 3.60 ERA and 108:61 K:BB. The southpaw will head to the Angels' organization as the player to be named later in the trade that sent Cozart and Wilson to the Giants earlier in the week. Williams likely still requires more time before making his major-league debut, but his development has been encouraging so far.
