Gage was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. Gage is cleared off the 40-man roster to make room for Chad Green, who signed a two-year, $8.5 million deal Tuesday. The southpaw hurler was effective with a 1.38 ERA over 13 innings in 11 appearances with Toronto, and posted a 2.34 ERA in Triple-A Buffalo in his 41 games in the minors. Blue Jays' Matt Gage: Sent down to minors
Gage was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports. Gage was called up by the Blue Jays on Tuesday but didn't make any appearances during his time in the major-league bullpen. The Blue Jays will call up Gage from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Tuesday's game in Tampa Bay, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Gage has a 2.16 ERA at Triple-A since his July 4 demotion. He was effective with Toronto prior to being sent down, posting a 1.38 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 13 innings.
