  • Twins' Trevor Megill: Goes to MiLB camp

The Twins reassigned Megill to minor-league camp Wednesday.

The 28-year-old joined the Twins on a minor-league deal in December and is expected to serve as organizational relief depth during the 2022 campaign. Megill reached the majors for the first time in his career in 2021, making 28 appearances while posting an 8.37 ERA and 1.86 WHIP across 23.2 innings with the Cubs.

  • Trevor Megill: Non-tendered by Twins

Megill was non-tendered by the Twins on Tuesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Megill was claimed off waivers from the Cubs earlier in the day, but he didn't have a spot on the Twins' roster for long. Minnesota may have made the move in hopes of bringing him back via a minor-league deal. Megill made his big-league debut with Chicago last season and had an 8.37 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB in 23.2 innings.

  • Twins' Trevor Megill: Claimed by Twins

Megill was claimed off waivers by the Twins on Tuesday.

Megill struggled to an 8.37 ERA in 23.2 innings of relief in his first taste of MLB action last season, but his underlying numbers are considerably more encouraging. A .420 BABIP contributed a fair amount to that inflated ERA, as both his 26.1 percent strikeout rate and 7.0 percent walk rate were better than average. It's possible he winds up as a useful piece in the Twins' bullpen next season, though it would be a surprise to see him in a high-leverage role.

  • Cubs' Trevor Megill: Collects first win

Megill (1-0) earned the win Friday over Pittsburgh with 1.1 perfect innings. He struck out three.

The 27-year-old hasn't enjoyed many clean outings this year, but he was able to get the final out of the sixth inning in relief of Alec Mills. Megill stayed in and got through the seventh without trouble, contributing part of 3.1 perfect innings from the Cubs' bullpen. The right-hander owns a 9.60 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB across 14.2 innings this year while allowing runs in seven of his 19 appearances. He'll likely continue to see mainly low-leverage spots.

Megill was recalled by the Cubs on Thursday, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Megill spent three days in the majors last week before heading to Triple-A on Sunday. He's back again after Dillon Maples hit the injured list with a blister. Megill has allowed six runs in 4.2 innings in his first taste of the majors this season, striking out two while walking six, but it could be easier for him to stick with the team in the second half, as the Cubs will likely move quite a few players prior to the trade deadline.

  • Cubs' Trevor Megill: Optioned to Triple-A

The Cubs are optioning Megill to Triple-A Iowa to make room on the roster for David Bote (shoulder), who is returning from the injured list Sunday.

Megill has been shuttling between Triple-A and the majors recently, as he was sent to Iowa in late June, recalled Thursday and is now getting sent back down a few days later. The righty has logged 4.2 innings for the Cubs this year, recording an 11.57 ERA. Megill could very well return to the big club at some point, though his fantasy value will be fairly limited in a low-leverage role.

  • Cubs' Trevor Megill: Optioned to Triple-A

The Cubs optioned Megill to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

The move was necessary to make room on the roster for Wednesday's spot starter Robert Stock. Megill has yet to allow a run in 2021, albeit in just three innings of relief work, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him back on the big-league roster in the near future, perhaps in the coming days if Stock's start isn't spectacular.

  • Cubs' Trevor Megill: Begins rehab assignment

Megill (forearm) retired one of the three batters he faced during a rehab outing with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday. He gave up an earned run on two walks during the 18-pitch appearance.

Megill showed shaky control in his first rehab outing with Iowa, pumping in only eight of his pitches for strikes. The 27-year-old has been on the shelf since late April with a strained right forearm, so he'll presumably need at least one or two more tune-up outings in the minors before the Cubs activate him.

Megill's contract was selected by the Cubs on Monday.

Megill was reassigned to minor-league camp in late March, but he'll be in line to make his major-league debut as part of a shuffle after Jason Adam was sent down Monday. Megill made 39 relief appearances in the minors in 2019 and posted a 3.86 ERA and 87:22 K:BB in 60.2 innings. He should mainly work as a low-leverage reliever in the majors.
