  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Back in lineup Wednesday

Rivera (shoulder) is back in the lineup Wednesday against the Mets. Rivera sat out Tuesday after injuring his left shoulder while trying to make a catch near the stands in Monday's series opener versus New York, but it has proven to be a minor blip. He'll cover third base and bat seventh for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday at Citi Field.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Leaves with shoulder injury

Rivera exited Monday's win over the Mets with a shoulder injury, MLB.com reports. Rivera, who started at third base, made an awkward attempt to catch a foul ball near the stands while running into the tarp. He stayed in the game for another inning before being removed. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo believes Rivera is fine and described him as day-to-day. He was replaced at third base by Jace Peterson.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Recalled from Reno

The Diamondbacks recalled Rivera from Triple-A Reno on Friday. Rivera was optioned to Reno on Aug. 12, and he has since slashed .304/.418/.609 with three homers and eight RBI across 55 plate appearances. He'll rejoin Arizona as rosters expand to 28 players and could split time at third base with Jace Peterson. Buddy Kennedy was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Optioned to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Rivera to Triple-A Reno on Saturday. Rivera hasn't recorded a hit since the end of July, so he'll head back to the minors in order to right the ship. Rivera has had better luck in Triple-A this season, slashing .348/.378/.591 in 74 plate appearances, so he could make a quick return to Arizona if he gets going at the plate again. Buddy Kennedy was selected from Reno to take Rivera's spot on the active roster.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Moves into short-side platoon role

Rivera is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. After starting at third base against lefties Dallas Keuchel and Julio Urias in the Diamondbacks' last two games and going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts, Rivera will move to the bench Wednesday for the second straight game in which Arizona has opposed a right-hander. Trade-deadline pickup Jace Peterson will get the nod at the hot corner against Dodgers righty Bobby Miller and appears to have moved into the strong side of a platoon with Rivera at third base.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Sits amid slump

Rivera is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers. Jace Peterson will start at third base and bat sixth versus the Dodgers and right-hander Bobby Miller. Rivera has gone 0-for-17 with no walks and six strikeouts since the calendar flipped to August.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Knocks in run

Rivera started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Monday's 4-3 extra-innings win over San Francisco. Rivera's 10th-inning single gave the Diamondbacks a brief lead before the Giants scored in the bottom of the frame. It was his sixth straight game with hit; he's 8-for-20 during the streak. A series of moves over the last few days impacts third base going forward. After placing Evan Longoria (back) on the injured list Saturday, Arizona traded infielder Josh Rojas to Seattle then acquired infielder Jace Peterson from Athletics. Peterson is essentially a Rojas replacement -- a left-handed bat that plays second and third base -- and could emerge as a platoon mate of Rivera.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Not starting Saturday

Rivera isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup Saturday against Seattle. Rivera will get a breather Saturday after putting together a four-game hitting streak and going 6-for-17 with a homer and three runs scored in that span. Josh Rojas will start at the hot corner in Rivera's place and bat seventh.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Gets on base four times

Rivera went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in Monday's 10-6 loss to the Cardinals. All three of Rivera's hits were singles in this contest. He's gone 10-for-42 (.238) over 12 contests in July while sharing third base with Evan Longoria. Rivera boasts a .290/.330/.398 slash line with three home runs, 22 RBI, 31 runs scored, one stolen base and 11 doubles through 200 plate appearances this season. He could continue to wrangle playing time away from Longoria, who has gone just 4-for-27 (.148) this month.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Sitting out Sunday

Rivera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. Rivera will take a seat after he started each of the past three games at third base while going 2-for-9 with a solo home run and a walk. Evan Longoria will spell him at third base.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Homers in loss

Rivera went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's 7-5 loss to Atlanta. Rivera's blast was the second of back-to-back homers in the seventh inning that turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead before the bullpen let it slip away. The home run was the second in as many starts for Rivera, who had entered the All-Star break in a slump but is 4-for-13 with three extra-base hits to begin the second half. He continues to have an edge in playing time at third base over Evan Longoria.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Takes seat Wednesday

Rivera is out of the lineup Wednesday versus Atlanta. Evan Longoria will play third base and bat sixth after Rivera logged three straight starts at the hot corner. Rivera seems to have again gained a leg up on the position, though his overall offensive production remains rather underwhelming for fantasy purposes.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Enters break on down beat

Rivera started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Pirates. Rivera and Evan Longoria have jockeyed for starts at the hot corner with the former's playing time on an uptick. Unfortunately, Rivera heads into the All-Star break hitless in the last 11 at-bats. After his callup in late April, Rivera posted a .361/.391/.472 line over his first 33 games, but that dropped to .145/.158/.164 in the previous 14 contests. There's room for improvement at third base; the Diamondbacks rank 21st with a .686 OPS from its third basemen.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Losing work to Longoria

Rivera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. After Josh Rojas was demoted to Triple-A Reno on June 19, Rivera looked as though he might be a candidate to pick up everyday playing time, but he's now started just six times in 13 games since that date. Instead, Evan Longoria appears to have the edge on playing time at the hot corner for the time being.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Out of lineup Thursday

Rivera is not in the lineup Thursday against the Rays. The hot-hitting Evan Longoria will start at third base and bat sixth as the Diamondbacks close out this three-game series versus Tampa Bay. Rivera showed well upon his initial call-up to the majors in late April and still holds a shiny .306 batting average on the year, but his lack of power production is preventing him from fully securing everyday at-bats.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Breather Tuesday

Rivera is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Rays. Rivera will remain on the bench for the second game in a row and the third time in the last four contests. Evan Longoria will draw another start at third base and bat sixth in the series opener with Tampa Bay. Managers with Rivera on their fantasy team shouldn't yet worry about him falling out of regular playing time, however, considering he's batting .314 with 11 extra-base hits over 140 at-bats with Arizona this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Not in Sunday's lineup

Rivera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at San Francisco. Rivera will take a seat for the second time in Arizona's past three games. Evan Longoria will start at the hot corner Sunday, and the pair should split playing time at the position going forward after Josh Rojas was demoted Monday.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Sitting Friday

Rivera is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Giants. Rivera will get a breather after he went 0-for-3 with an RBI and two strikeouts in Thursday's matinee makeup game with the Nationals. Evan Longoria will take over at the hot corner and bat seventh in Fridays series opener with San Francisco.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Collects trio of hits

Rivera went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's win over the Brewers. After going 1-for-20 (.050) in his last five games, Rivera broke out of the cold spell with a three-hit effort. Although two of his three hits came off right handers Wednesday, Rivera has been mashing lefties this season, slashing .352/.352/.481 with 11 RBI and a home run across 54 at-bats.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Benefits from Rojas optioning

Rivera started at third base and went 0-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 9-1 win over the Brewers. Rivera got the start against a right-hander, which had been a role handled by Josh Rojas before he was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday. The former has hit well since being recalled in late April and has been a regular in the rotation at third base along with Rojas and Evan Longoria. The Diamondbacks now have a pair of righty hitters at third, so it bears watching to see how the split plays out. Rivera doesn't have a history of success in the majors, and his .364 BABIP is a factor in an impressive .313/.341/.406 line over 38 games. After Monday's game, Rivera has just one hit over the previous 21 at-bats, suggesting a correction to the slash line is coming.
