Cardinals' Julio E. Rodriguez: Kicks off rehab assignment
Rodriguez (undisclosed) began a rehab assignment Saturday with the Cardinals' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, going 0-for-2 with a walk while catching three innings. Rodriguez has been on the shelf at Double-A Springfield since May 11 with the unspecified injury. He'll likely need a few tune-up games in the FCL before Springfield activates him from the 7-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Julio Rodriguez: Reassigned to minor-league camp
Rodriguez was reassigned to minor-league spring training Tuesday, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports. Evan Woodbery@evanwoodbery2D agoKenta Maeda is the first Japanese player on the Tigers since Hideo Nomo. "If that inspires other Japanese players to want to come to Detroit and play here, that's great," Harris said. "But it's not the reason why we signed Kenta. We signed him because he's really talented."

Evan Woodbery@evanwoodbery2D agoTigers president Scott Harris on Kenta Maeda: "He's a plus strike thrower. He has multiple swing-and-miss secondary options. He's an excellent competitor. He's a great teammate. He does a lot of things that we really like."

Evan Woodbery@evanwoodbery2D agoThe Tigers not only made the Kenta Maeda deal official on Tuesday, they publicly confirmed his salary. To my knowledge, the Braves are the only MLB organization currently doing this. If this is a trend, it's a good one.
