Player Outlook
Steven Kwan offers batting average, steals and runs at the expense of home runs and RBI. Nobody in baseball whiffs at a lower rate than Kwan (career 10.0 K%) and those contact skills have kept him atop the Guardians' lineup. He's scored 182 runs over the past two seasons, 20th in the majors in that span. Kwan is an impressive runner and improved his efficiency on the basepaths last season, getting caught only three times in 24 steal attempts. The dearth of power makes Kwan a tricky play in certain league formats. In rotisserie leagues, Kwan's deficiencies can be stomached as he does more good than harm and the power can be made up elsewhere. However, in points leagues without a premium for stolen bases, Kwan might not clear the bar, especially if you're only starting three outfielders. Know your league rules well because Kwan's utility varies depending on the format.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Moving rehab to Triple-A

Kwan (hamstring) will have his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Columbus beginning Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Kwan went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run and a walk over two games with High-A Lake County over the weekend. The outfielder is expected to play six-to-eight innings in left field Tuesday. He may stay with Columbus for the remainder of the Guardians' road trip, which makes it possible Kwan could be ready to return to the majors by Friday.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Set for rehab assignment

Kwan (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake County on Saturday. Kwan is scheduled to play both Saturday and Sunday. It's not clear if he'll be moved up to another affiliate following those games, but it seems Kwan has a good chance to beat the four-week projection he was given when he went on the injured list May 6. The Guardians' current road trip features a three-game series from Monday to Wednesday at Colorado before they come home for six games beginning Friday.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Participates in batting practice

Kwan (hamstring) participated in batting practice Friday for the first time since he went on the injured list, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports. "He's progressing well," manager Stephen Vogt said before Friday's series opener against Minnesota. "Still don't have a timetable, but the fact that he's already back to baseball activity is a good sign. He's feeling well and been running relatively pain-free, so he's on a good track." Kwan was initially given a four-week timeline when he went on the injured list, so it's encouraging that he's resumed baseball activities halfway through that expected absence. The Guardians are likely to take things cautiously with Kwan given his history of hamstring issues, so it's unclear when he might be able to go out on a rehab assignment.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Facing four-week absence

The Guardians expect Kwan to miss approximately four weeks after placing him on the 10-day injured list earlier Monday with an acute left hamstring strain, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Kwan was diagnosed with the acute hamstring strain after undergoing an MRI following his early exit from Saturday's 7-1 win over the Angels. With imaging determining that he sustained more than a mild injury, Kwan will be sidelined well beyond the minimum 10 days, and a more precise return date likely won't come into focus until he reaches the point in his rehab where he's performing baseball activities. The Guardians are likely to turn to Estevan Florial, Ramon Laureano and Gabriel Arias to fill in for Kwan in the corner outfield, while prospect Kyle Manzardo was promoted from Triple-A Columbus on Monday and should take on an everyday role at designated hitter for at least the next few weeks.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Heads to 10-day IL

The Guardians placed Kwan on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left hamstring strain. Cleveland hasn't disclosed the grade of Kwan's hamstring strain, which he suffered in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Angels. The injury forced him to miss his second game of the season Sunday, and he'll be sidelined through at least May 14 as a result of landing on the IL. The Guardians called up prospect Kyle Manzardo from Triple-A Columbus to take over Kwan's spot on the 26-man active roster, and Manzardo should also inherit an everyday role while the 26-year-old outfielder is on the shelf. Manzardo will serve as the Guardians' designated hitter in Monday's series opener versus the Tigers and will hit seventh, while Estevan Florial will fill in for Kwan in left field and atop the batting order.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Will undergo MRI on hamstring

Kwan will undergo an MRI on his injured left hamstring Sunday, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Kwan tweaked the hamstring during Saturday's 7-1 win over the Angels while making a play in the outfield. More should be known about whether Kwan will require a stint on the injured list following the exam. Kwan is off to an excellent start this season, slashing .353/.407/.496 over 32 games.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Leaves game with hamstring injury

Kwan was lifted from Saturday's game against the Angels due to left hamstring tightness, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Kwan appeared to tweak his hamstring while chasing down a flyball in the top of the third inning and was removed prior to the top of the fourth. It's not clear at this point whether he might require an MRI, but the Guardians figure to offer an update on his condition after the game.

Kwan went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Astros. He ended up a home run short of the cycle in Wednesday's strong performance. The leadoff hitter has gone 11-for-28 (.393) during his seven-game hitting streak, and he's slashing an excellent .360/.403/.512 with three homers, 11 RBI, 27 runs scored, three stolen bases, six doubles and two triples over 29 contests this season.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Pops third homer

Kwan went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 loss to Atlanta. He led off the game by ripping a Chris Sale sinker down the right-field line, but not much else went right for the Guardians on the night. Kwan managed only 11 homers total in his first two big-league seasons, but the 26-year-old already has three in 25 games to begin 2024. He's still making plenty of contact, too, sitting third in the AL in batting average at .343, just behind Jose Altuve (.346) and Salvador Perez (.344).

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Gets aboard four times

Kwan went 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-7 extra-innings win over the Red Sox. Kwan is batting .400 (14-for-35) during his active eight-game hitting streak. He continues to put the ball in play with great success, batting .372 over 17 contests this season. He's added two home runs, five RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base. Kwan can still chip in a bit more with speed, but he's doing everything else right from atop the Guardians' order.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Stays hot in win

Kwan went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Twins. Kwan logged multiple hits for the third game in a row and the fifth time in eight contests this season. The outfielder is batting a stellar .385 with a home run, three RBI and 10 runs scored over eight contests at the top of a surprisingly productive Guardians lineup. Some of his success comes from it being early in the season, but Kwan hit .298 as a rookie in 2022 before dropping to .268 last season -- he's on track for a better showing if he can avoid lengthy slumps in 2024.

Kwan went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a walk, two RBI and three runs in Saturday's 12-3 win at Oakland. The Guardians have posted 26 runs through three games against the A's, with Kwan setting the table nicely atop the order by going 6-for-15 with six runs and a stolen base. The 26-year-old clubbed just 11 home runs in 305 games across his first two MLB seasons, and his 424-foot shot to right-center field Saturday was a welcome show of power for the contact-oriented outfielder, who entered the year with a career .102 ISO.
