Player Outlook
Steven Kwan offers batting average, steals and runs at the expense of home runs and RBI. Nobody in baseball whiffs at a lower rate than Kwan (career 10.0 K%) and those contact skills have kept him atop the Guardians' lineup. He's scored 182 runs over the past two seasons, 20th in the majors in that span. Kwan is an impressive runner and improved his efficiency on the basepaths last season, getting caught only three times in 24 steal attempts. The dearth of power makes Kwan a tricky play in certain league formats. In rotisserie leagues, Kwan's deficiencies can be stomached as he does more good than harm and the power can be made up elsewhere. However, in points leagues without a premium for stolen bases, Kwan might not clear the bar, especially if you're only starting three outfielders. Know your league rules well because Kwan's utility varies depending on the format.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Receiving Sunday off

Kwan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Kwan will hit the bench after starting 28 straight games, and he posted a .145/.254/.218 slash line over 110 at-bats during that stretch. Will Brennan will take over in left field and atop the lineup for the series finale in Los Angeles.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Swipes bag in loss

Kwan went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Thursday's 6-0 loss to the Yankees. Kwan led off the game with a single, but that was the Guardians' lone hit of the contest. Prior to Thursday, Kwan had gone just 1-for-20 over his last five games, though the Guardians have struggled in general during their road trip with stops in Milwaukee and New York. The outfielder is up to 11 steals on 15 attempts while slashing .310/.371/.457 through 101 contests this season.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Logs 10th steal

Kwan went 0-for-4 with three walks, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 9-5 extra-innings win over the Yankees. Kwan was held hitless for the fourth time in six games, which has put a damper on his usually-elite on-base numbers. In August, he's batting .221 (15-for-68) with 11 walks and four steals over 18 contests. The outfielder is now at a .313/.375/.462 slash line with 13 home runs, 10 steals, 36 RBI and 71 runs scored across 99 games this season. With only modest contributions outside of batting average and runs, he's tough to keep in fantasy lineups when he's in a slump.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Homers again Monday

Kwan went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run, two walks and two total runs scored in Monday's 9-8 win over the Cubs. Kwan has homered twice over the last three games, adding four RBI and three runs scored in that span. The outfielder is batting .279 (12-for-43) over 12 contests in August after hitting just .250 in July. He's still not back to where he was early in the season, but he's not in a slump either. For the year, he's at a .326/.386/.485 slash line with 13 homers, 36 RBI, 69 runs scored and nine stolen bases through 93 contests.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Clubs leadoff homer

Kwan went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday in a 2-1 win against Minnesota. It looked like the game could be headed for plenty of scoring when Kwan led off the contest with a solo shot, but that ended up being one of just three runs produced in the matchup. The long ball was Kwan's 12th of the campaign through 91 games, which doubles his previous season high of six set across 147 contests in 2022. In addition to the increased power, Kwan has also shown improvement in his ability to rack up hits -- he ranks second in the majors with a .326 batting average after hitting just .268 last season.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Idle for second game of twin bill

Kwan is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks. Kwan had been in line to receive a day off Tuesday, but that game was ultimately postponed due to inclement weather. The 26-year-old will now get the chance to rest up for the second game of the twin bill after he occupied his usual spot atop the lineup and in left field in the Guardians' 7-3 loss earlier in the day, going 1-for-4 with a run scored. Angel Martinez will check in for Kwan in left field.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Getting breather Tuesday

Kwan is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Arizona. Kwan will get his first true day off since June 7, taking a seat against southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez and the Diamondbacks. Angel Martinez will fill left field while Josh Naylor slots in at DH. Kwan is slashing .334/.392/.487 across 382 plate appearances this season.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Logs steal Friday

Kwan went 1-for-4 with a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 8-4 win over the Orioles. Kwan picked up his first steal since July 19. Over his last 14 games, the outfielder has been uncharacteristically quiet at the plate, batting just .232 (13-for-56), though he has swatted two home runs in that span. He's at a .332/.385/.484 slash line with 11 homers, seven steals, 31 RBI and 60 runs scored over 83 contests this season.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Reaches 10-homer mark

Kwan went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Tigers. Kwan reached double-digit homers for the first time in his three-year career, opening the scoring with a third-inning solo shot. The outfielder has added a .347/.401/.507 slash line with 28 RBI, 57 runs scored and six stolen bases through 74 contests this season. He's been a little cooler in July, batting .278 (20-for-72) this month, though he has hit three of his homers over those 18 games.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Swipes sixth bag

Kwan went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 7-0 win over the Padres. MLB's batting average leader at .354 -- 26 points ahead of second-place Bobby Witt -- Kwan came flying out of the All-Star break with his first multi-hit performance since July 9. The 26-year-old outfielder only has six steals in 10 attempts this season, a disappointing showing after he went 21-for-24 on the basepaths in 2023, but he has successfully swiped bags in back-to-back games and could make an impact in the category in the second half.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Logs fifth steal

Kwan went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Rays. This was Kwan's first steal since June 25 and his fifth of the campaign on nine attempts. Given he missed a month with a hamstring issue, it's not a surprise he's been a bit more cautious on the basepaths. The outfielder is batting .283 in July and now has a .352/.407/.512 slash line with nine home runs, 27 RBI, 55 runs scored, 14 doubles and two triples through 308 plate appearances this year.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Gets aboard four times Tuesday

Kwan went 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning win over the Tigers. Kwan was one of three Guardians, along with Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor, to log three hits Tuesday. That trio set the table for a potent offensive showing in the high-scoring game, just one day after Monday's 1-0 victory for the Tigers. Kwan is batting .324 (11-for-34) in July across eight games, and he's slashing .363/.418/.531 with nine home runs, 27 RBI, 54 runs scored and four stolen bases over 64 contests this season.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Homers in win over Giants

Kwan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Giants. Kwan has gone deep in two of his last three games, and he's hit five homers over his last 17 contests while batting .294 (20-for-68) in that span. While he's cooled off from flirting with a .400 batting average in mid-to-late June, he continues to impress with his consistency at the plate. The outfielder has a .365/.421/.542 slash line for the year to go along with nine homers, 27 RBI, 52 runs scored and four stolen bases over 61 contests.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Picks up steal

Kwan went 1-for-5 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 10-8 win over the Orioles. Kwan has let his bat do the talking since he returned from a hamstring injury, going 33-for-75 (.440) over his last 19 contests. Predictably, he hasn't tried his luck much on the bases, going 1-for-2 in stolen base attempts in that span. He's now at a .385/.443/.563 slash line with seven home runs, 24 RBI, 48 runs scored and four steals over 51 contests, and it's safe to assume his speed will remain down given his history of hamstring issues.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Goes yard again

Kwan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jays. Kwan saw a 14-game hitting streak end Friday with an 0-for-4 performance, but he rebounded nicely Saturday. The homer was his third in June, and he's added six doubles, 10 RBI and 16 runs scored this month. The outfielder has matched his career high with six long balls, and with over half of the season to go, he has a reasonable chance at double digits. He's slashing a fantastic .390/.449/.564 with 22 RBI, 45 runs scored, three stolen bases, 12 doubles and two triples over 48 contests.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Collects four more hits

Kwan went 4-for-5 with one RBI in Sunday's loss to Toronto. Kwan has been unstoppable since returning from a hamstring injury May 31, hitting safely in all 11 games while batting a torrid .535 with one home run, six RBI and 11 runs scored. The 26-year-old's hot streak has propelled his average to .398, which would lead the league if he had enough plate appearances to qualify.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: On base four times in win

Kwan went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Reds. The 26-year-old outfielder just keeps raking. Kwan has hit safely in seven straight games since returning from a hamstring injury at the end of May, batting a blistering .520 (13-for-25) over that stretch, and the only thing keeping him from leading the majors with his .380 batting average is the time he missed due to the injury, as he doesn't yet have enough plate appearances to qualify. Kwan's 3-for-7 performance on the basepaths is a bit troubling, but with four homers and 38 runs through 39 contests, he's on pace for career highs in both categories.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Getting day off

Kwan is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Miami. The Guardians have now mixed in two off days for Kwan in the outfielder's first week back from a hamstring injury. David Fry will be the left fielder Friday and Tyler Freeman will be elevated to the leadoff spot.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Breather Saturday

Kwan is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus Washington. Kwan will head to the bench after he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in his return to the lineup Friday after missing nearly four weeks with a hamstring injury. David Fry will slot in at left field while Kyle Manzardo enters the lineup at designated hitter and bats sixth against the Nationals.

  • Guardians' Steven Kwan: Back from IL, leading off Friday

Kwan (hamstring) was reinstated from the injured list and is starting in left field and batting leadoff Friday against the Nationals, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old has been sidelined nearly four weeks by a strained left hamstring, but he's back with the Guardians after a four-game rehab stint in the minors. Kwan was producing as one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball prior to the injury with three homers, three steals and a .353/.407/.496 slash line in 32 games.
