Though Bo Bichette drew the start at shortstop Sunday, Jimenez's ability to come off the bench and play four innings in the field suggests he's healthy again after he had been scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees due to an illness. Jimenez is vying for a utility role after slashing .229/.329/.358 over 210 plate appearances as a rookie with Toronto in 2024.

Since Aug. 1, Jiminez is slashing .247/.381/.471 with four home runs, 14 RBI and a 30.5 percent strikeout rate across 105 plate appearances.

Even though he typically starts against left-handed pitchers like the Mets' Sean Manaea, Jimenez will take a seat for Wednesday's series finale after he was hit in the foot in Tuesday's 6-2 win. Jimenez has now been struck by pitches in four consecutive games and five times in seven September contests, so the infielder should benefit from a day off. The removal appears to be precautionary, but Jimenez should still be considered day-to-day.

He is hitting .214 with no extra-base hits in five games since the promotion, but this has been a very successful year for Jimenez on the whole. The 22-year-old Panamanian middle infielder was added to the 40-man roster as Rule 5 draft protection back in 2021, but it wasn't until this year that he started hitting the ball with enough authority to potentially profile as more than a utility player.
