The Yankees optioned Gomez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. Gomez made his major-league debut Thursday in Toronto and struck out four of the eight batters he faced over two scoreless innings of relief. The 23-year-old right-hander should be a consideration for the Opening Day roster next spring, whether in a rotation or bullpen role. He's mostly worked as a starter in the minors.... See More ... Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Called up for debut
Gomez was called up from Double-A Somerset on Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Gomez held a 3.58 ERA and 78:37 K:BB across 65.1 innings of work covering 19 starts with Somerset this season to earn a look with the big club. The 23-year-old right-hander will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. Luke Weaver is slated to start Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks, so Gomez could be needed to eat some relief innings.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Cleared for season debut
Double-A Somerset reinstated Gomez (shoulder) from the 7-day injured list Sunday. Gomez will make his season debut Sunday after missing six-plus weeks with a shoulder injury. The 23-year-old has shown the ability to miss bats in the minors and registered a 2.49 ERA over 47 innings in the 2022 campaign, but he carries durability and command concerns that might make him better suited for a relief role at the highest level.... Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Assigned to minor-league camp
Gomez was reassigned to Double-A Somerset following Monday's spring training game against the Pirates. Gomez appeared in two spring games with the Yankees before being sent to the minors to prepare for the upcoming 2023 campaign. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings while up with the big club.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Moves up to Double-A
The Yankees promoted Gomez from High-A Hudson Valley to Double-A Somerset on Wednesday. The 22-year-old right-hander is scheduled to make his debut for Somerset on Thursday. After missing the first two months of the season while recovering from elbow surgery, Gomez was lights-out upon joining Hudson Valley in mid-June. Over 10 starts at High-A, Gomez turned in a 1.93 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 27:12 K:BB in 28 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Reinstated from injured list
Gomez (elbow) was reinstated from the 7-day minor-league injured list Friday, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports. Gomez underwent elbow surgery last August and spent the first few months of the season in recovery mode. However, he'll join the rotation at High-A Hudson Valley now that he's considered fully healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Recovering from elbow surgery
Gomez had elbow surgery last August and should return for Low-A Tampa sometime in the first half of this season, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports. Given this timetable, we can rule out Tommy John surgery, so it may have been some kind of cleanup procedure. Gomez is already 22 and has not pitched above Low-A.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Moves to minors
Gomez was optioned to Low-A Tampa on Friday. Gomez was added to the 40-man roster in November and has made one appearance this spring, notching one strikeout in a perfect inning against Philadelphia. He is likely a few years away from making his big-league debut.... See More ... See Less

River Ave. Blues@RiverAveBlues11H agoThe draft lottery is later today. Because they missed the postseason, the Yankees have a chance at the No. 1 pick. It's a very small chance (0.6%), but it's better than the 0% chance they would have had through the old reverse order of the standings system.

Joel Sherman@Joelsherman14D agoThe Yankees claimed corner outfielder Oscar Gonzalez off waivers from the Guardians. Gonzalez had a few huge hits in the Guardians-Yankees, DS in 2022, including a walk-off 2-run single in G3. He goes to the 40-man roster and has two remaining options. @JackCurryYES 1st

River Ave. Blues@RiverAveBlues7D agoI can't believe this needs to be said but yes, the Yankees should trade for Juan Soto. Signing Cody Bellinger instead of trading for Soto would fit NYY's "pass up the obvious thing for the thing they think makes them look smart" strategy that led them to an 82-80 record in 2023.
