  • Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Sent to Triple-A

The Yankees optioned Gomez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Gomez was able to get through his two-inning appearance Monday without giving up a run, bringing his ERA down to 3.97 through 11.1 frames in the majors. He'll now return to Triple-A following the acquisition of Mark Leiter from the Cubs, though Gomez could still return to New York later in the year should the Yankees need a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Returns to Triple-A

Gomez was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Padres. Gomez will return to Triple-A after tossing a scoreless inning with three strikeouts in the team's 8-0 victory over San Diego on Friday. The right-hander was filling in for Nick Burdi (hip) on the major-league roster, but with Ian Hamilton (illness) set to be activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of the team's series in Anaheim on Tuesday, Gomez was the odd man out with New York.

  • Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Optioned back to minors

The Yankees optioned Gomez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. Gomez made his major-league debut Thursday in Toronto and struck out four of the eight batters he faced over two scoreless innings of relief. The 23-year-old right-hander should be a consideration for the Opening Day roster next spring, whether in a rotation or bullpen role. He's mostly worked as a starter in the minors.

The 23-year-old right-hander will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. Luke Weaver is slated to start Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks, so Gomez could be needed to eat some relief innings.

  • Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Recovering from elbow surgery

Gomez had elbow surgery last August and should return for Low-A Tampa sometime in the first half of this season, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports. Given this timetable, we can rule out Tommy John surgery, so it may have been some kind of cleanup procedure. Gomez is already 22 and has not pitched above Low-A.
