Jones (shoulder) was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. Jones dealt with a left shoulder impingement for most of the 2022 season and will be outrighted to the minors as a procedural move to remove him from the 60-day injured list for now. It's unclear what his status will be for the start of spring training in 2023.... See More ... See Less

Phillies' Damon Jones: Out two months with shoulder injury
The Phillies recalled Jones from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a left shoulder impingement. After being optioned to Lehigh Valley earlier this season, Jones hadn't pitched for the club since May 19 and was later placed on the 7-day IL The Phillies' decision to call him up and move him to the 60-day IL ensures that the southpaw reliever will now be on the shelf for at least the next two months. The transaction also clears a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Oscar Mercado, whom the Phillies claimed off waivers from the Guardians on Monday.... See More ... See Less -

Jones will give the Phillies a fresh arm but isn't expected to see much work in high-leverage situations.... See More ... See Less -

Phillies' Damon Jones: Secures bullpen spot
Jones will open the year in the Phillies' big-league bullpen, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Teams can carry two extra players over the first four weeks of the season to account for the shortened spring, so the Phillies will open the year with a 10-man bullpen. Jones has only made a single one-out appearance in his major-league career and struggled to a 5.44 ERA for Triple-A Lehigh Valley last season, so he'll need to impress early on if he's to stick around once rosters shrink to 26 in early May.... The Phillies optioned Jones to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. Jones was sent to the farm to make room on the 28-man active roster for outfielder Travis Jankowski (foot), who was reinstated from the injured list. Jones rapidly progressed through the minor-league ranks in 2019, and he was part of the team's 60-man roster in 2020. The southpaw will be protected from the Rule 5 draft, but he'll likely have to demonstrate more production against higher-level talent before debuting in the big leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Damon Jones: Throws well in camp
Jones posted a 5:2 K:BB in his three scoreless Grapefruit League innings before getting sent to minor-league camp in early March. The Phillies didn't give Jones a particularly long look this spring, which makes sense, as his 6.62 ERA in eight Triple-A starts last season suggests he still has some work to do before pushing for a roster spot. In 23 starts across the three highest levels of the minors last season, Jones recorded a 2.91 ERA and a 32.3 percent strikeout rate, though he also walked 12.6 percent of opposing batters.... Scott Lauber@ScottLauber17H ago#Phillies 2, Angels 1: Zack Wheeler had to grind through five innings. The Phillies struck out 18 times. Gregory Soto walked a tightrope in the ninth inning. There was even an earthquake. But they closed a 7-3 trip and have won 13 of 16. The Phils are 21-11, best start since 2011
