  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Heads back to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Jarvis to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. Jarvis tossed 66 pitches across four innings of relief in last Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Royals. He allowed three hits and two walks while striking out a pair in the scoreless outing. Jarvis has a 4.40 ERA and 13:7 K:BB across 14.1 innings of work with Arizona this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Mops up Sunday's loss

Jarvis allowed three hits and two walks while striking out two over four scoreless relief innings in Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Royals. Jarvis was summoned from Triple-A Reno when the Diamondbacks placed Ryan Thompson (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Sunday. The former was a starter for the Aces and should get similar long relief opportunities going forward while up with the club.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Back in majors

The Diamondbacks recalled Jarvis from Triple-A Reno on Sunday. The right-hander has spent the past few weeks with Reno but will rejoin the big club after Ryan Thompson (shoulder) was placed on the injured list. Jarvis has a 6.10 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB over 10.1 innings with Arizona this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Grabs three-inning save

Jarvis allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out two over three innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Mariners. Jarvis' first big-league save was of the three-inning variety, and this shouldn't be an indication that he'll get a chance to close any time soon, even with Justin Martinez (elbow) and A.J. Puk (elbow) both on the injured list. This was Jarvis' first major-league appearance since April 18. He struggled as a starter at Triple-A Reno prior to his recall Tuesday, posting a 5.17 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 29:17 K:BB across 31.1 innings for the minor-league affiliate. Jarvis figures to operate as a multi-inning reliever moving forward, though his 6.10 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB across 10.1 innings in the majors this season offer little reason for confidence.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Out with elbow sprain

The Diamondbacks placed Jarvis on the 15-day injured list Friday due to a sprained right elbow. It's unclear when exactly the right-hander sustained the injury, but he last pitched Tuesday against the Nationals and allowed two hits with two strikeouts over a scoreless frame. Jarvis will be eligible to be reinstated in mid-August, but it's possible he faces a longer absence.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Picks up first win

Jarvis (1-2) picked up the win over the Dodgers on Wednesday, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings in relief while allowing one hit and two walks. He struck out one. Jarvis relieved Cristian Mena to open the bottom of the fourth and managed to hold the Dodgers' lineup scoreless over the next 2.1 innings despite allowing a baserunner in each frame. Arizona would go on to add four runs over that stretch, helping the right-hander earn his first win of the campaign. Though Jarvis allowed two runs in his previous relief appearance June 27 against the Twins, he's actually held opposing teams scoreless in four of his last five outings.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Takes loss in extras

Jarvis (0-2) was the losing pitcher in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to Baltimore. He allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out one over one-plus innings. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo turned to Jarvis, the team's long arm out of the bullpen, to navigate extra frames. The lefty managed to extricate himself from a bases-loaded jam in the 10th inning thanks to double-play groundout but couldn't escape the 11th. Jordan Westburg reached down for the first pitch -- a slider at the bottom of the zone -- and got the end of the bat on the ball, which landed just inside the right-field line, plating the automatic runner for the Orioles' walk-off win. It was the fifth time in the last six games that Jarvis has allowed at least a run, and he has an 8.59 ERA over that span.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Remains in rotation mix

Jarvis is still in the mix for the fifth starter job, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Gilbert re-examined the competition for the No. 5 job after the Diamondbacks optioned Slade Cecconi to minor-league camp Monday. Cecconi was seen as part of a three-man grouping that also includes Tommy Henry and Ryne Nelson, but Jarvis has been building up innings despite not making a Cactus League start. The right-hander was up to 3.1 innings his last time out, when Jarvis allowed two hits and a walk while striking out five without ceding a run. The conventional thought is that Nelson is the leader at this stage of spring.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Fans three in short appearance

Jarvis allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over 2.2 innings in Sunday's loss to the Astros. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision. Jarvis entered the game in the first inning after Kyle Nelson got off to a rocky start as the opener. Since the start of September, Jarvis allowed three earned runs over 11.2 frames. He registered a solid 3.04 in 23.2 MLB innings this season, mostly as a bullpen arm. The right-handed rookie could compete for a rotation spot with Arizona in 2024.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Slated to open Thursday's game

Jarvis is listed as the Diamondbacks' starting pitcher in Thursday's game against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, Jesse Friedman of ArizonaSports.com reports. Jarvis made 16 starts at Triple-A Reno this season, but each of his first nine big-league appearances with Arizona have come out of the bullpen. Though he'll draw his first MLB start Thursday, Jarvis hasn't covered more than 3.2 innings in any of his appearances with Arizona or Reno since the beginning of August, so he may not be asked to work especially deep into the contest. Even against a White Sox squad that ranks last in the majors with a 68 wRC+ in September, Jarvis doesn't make for an inspiring streaming option.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Back in big leagues

Jarvis was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. Jarvis has a 2.81 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 7:8 K:BB across 16 innings this season, so it's not a major surprise he'll receive another look in the big-league bullpen. Scott McGough (shoulder) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: To be optioned

The Diamondbacks will option Jarvis to Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Ryne Nelson is set to come up from the minors to start Thursday, so Jarvis will be pushed off the active roster to free up a spot. Jarvis has posted a solid 3.21 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 14 innings in the majors this season, so there's a chance he returns to Arizona's bullpen before the end of the year.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Makes Cactus League start

Jarvis allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five over 4.2 innings in Monday's spring start against the White Sox. Jarvis was smooth through three scoreless innings before ceding a three-run home run on a 1-0 changeup to Hanser Alberto in the fourth. This was his third appearance and first as a starter in Cactus League competition. The 2020 first-round draft pick compiled an 8.27 ERA with 27 homers allowed over 106.2 innings at Double-A Amarillo last season, which prompted him to make adjustments to his delivery during the offseason.

  • Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Nursing oblique injury

Jarvis was placed on the injured list Wednesday with an oblique issue, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. Jarvis allowed six runs in 4.2 innings in what was his worst start of the season Sunday. Overall, the right-hander has pitched well, posting a 4.20 ERA through 60 innings in 2021. It's unclear how long Jarvis will be kept out of Double-A action with the injury.
