Deichmann was added to the Athletics' 40-man roster Friday.
Deichmann joined Oakland's 60-man player pool this past season but didn't get the chance to make his major-league debut. The 25-year-old has yet to play above the Double-A level and hasn't produced an above-average batting line above short-season ball, making for a fairly unimpressive resume for a corner outfielder.
Deichmann is included in the 60-man player pool that will report to the Athletics' summer camp, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
The 2017 second-round pick earned accolades from veteran players for his performance during Cactus League play before spring training was suspended, and he'll now have a chance to continue his professional development irrespective of what happens with the 2020 minor-league season. Deichmann did struggle to a .219/.300/.375 line at Double-A Midland last season, so he's not projected to make the Opening Day roster and is instead expected to be part of a pool of up to 30 players slated to continue training at an alternate location during the regular season.
Deichmann, who hit .261 (6-for-23) across 11 Cactus League games, made a strong impression on the veterans in spring training, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Deichmann is one of the organization's brighter prospects, and while he's projected to start the season at Double-A Midland, Gallegos reports Deichmann could move up to Triple-A Las Vegas quickly if he continues to develop as expected. The 24-year-old came into spring camp with some momentum, as he led the Arizona Fall League with nine home runs across 23 games. Deichmann also went deep twice in spring training and received positive feedback from fellow outfielder Ramon Laureano in particular, who praised Deichmann's compact, efficient swing and called him "a really good offensive player."
Deichmann has been out since Friday at High-A Stockton due to a wrist injury, TheAthletic.com reports.
The 43rd overall pick in the 2017 draft was off to a slow start by hitting just .200 with a .669 OPS.
