Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Lands on injured list
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gilbert was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with left elbow inflammation.

Gilbert earned a win Sunday against the Mariners after allowing two runs on two hits across 5.1 innings. but he's apparently dealing with an arm issue. It's unclear if the left-hander will pitch again this season with less than three weeks left to go. Merrill Kelly (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move and will start Wednesday versus the Dodgers.

Gilbert didn't factor into the decision in a 10-4 loss to Seattle on Sunday in extra innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings.

Gilbert permitted two runs on two hits in the fourth inning and another run in the seventh to depart with the game knotted at 3-3. The rookie has accumulated a decent 4.06 ERA in five starts since joining the rotation, though his upside remains limited by a mere 19 strikeouts in those 31 innings.

Gilbert (1-2) allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk while striking out four across five innings, taking the loss to the Padres on Monday.

It took Gilbert 91 pitches to get through five innings as five runs scored in the first three innings, started by a Fernando Tatis two-run homer. Since Gilbert fired a no-hitter in his first MLB start, he has allowed nine runs over 15 innings in three outings. His next start is tentatively lined up for Sunday against Seattle.

Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Limits damage across five innings
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gilbert allowed two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four across five innings Wednesday against the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.

Gilbert didn't allow a baserunner across his first three innings of work, but he ran into trouble later in his start. He loaded the bases in the fourth frame but avoided major damage. One inning later, he allowed multiple runners to reach scoring position but allowed only one additional earned run. In a tougher matchup, Gilbert likely would have had a more difficult time preventing runs, and he's now allowed 12 hits and four walks while striking out only six across 10 innings and two starts since tossing a no-hitter on Aug. 14.

Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Follows no-no with four-run outing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gilbert completed five innings against Colorado on Friday, allowing four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out two. He did not factor in the decision.

The southpaw's bid for a second straight no-hitter fizzled quickly Friday when Brendan Rodgers singled with one out in the bottom of the first inning. Gilbert got out of that frame unscored upon but gave up four runs between the second and fourth innings and departed after the fifth having thrown 85 pitches. The rookie induced only six swinging strikes and punched out just two batters, making for an unfriendly fantasy outing. Gilbert's next turn in the rotation is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday at Pittsburgh.

Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Gets chance to follow up no-hitter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gilbert is scheduled to make a second start for Arizona on Friday in Colorado.

Arizona's decision to keep Gilbert in the rotation for another turn comes as little surprise after he became the first pitcher since 1953 to toss a no-hitter in his first MLB start last weekend versus the Padres. Gilbert struck out only five batters and induced nine swinging strikes in the nine-inning outing, suggesting that his ERA and WHIP will be in line for a correction once his BABIP normalizes. Pitching at altitude in Coors Field certainly won't help Gilbert's chances of submitting another gem.

Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Fires no-hitter in first MLB start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gilbert (1-1) fired a no-hitter, earning the win over the Padres on Saturday. He struck out five and walked three.

Gilbert made his first career start in his fourth appearance this season. He was the first player to throw a no-hitter in his first MLB start since Bobo Holloman in 1953 for the St. Louis Browns, per AP News. He allowed just three walks, which happened to all be against Tommy Pham. The 27-year-old has yet to allow an earned run and has just two hits against him in 12.2 innings this season. His fantastic performance bodes well for his chances of sticking around in a starting role.

Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Slated to start Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gilbert will start Saturday's game against the Padres, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.

Gilbert joined the major-league club in early August, and he's struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings across three relief appearances. The southpaw worked mainly as a starter at Triple-A Reno to begin the year, so he should be able to handle a normal workload in his first major-league start.

Gilbert's contract was selected from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

He logged a 3.44 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 50:19 K:BB in 52.1 innings working mostly as a starter at Triple-A, but it's possible he will just be deployed as a long reliever during his first big-league stint. The 27-year-old southpaw spent the first five seasons of his career pitching in the minors as part of the Phillies' organization before latching on with Arizona this year.
