Indians' Rajai Davis: Leading off Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Davis is starting in center field and leading off Wednesday against the Tigers, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

He has now led off in back-to-back games, with both starts coming against southpaws. Davis will draw the occassional start against a righty, but his primary role while the Indians are without three injured outfielders is to play table setter against left-handed pitchers. He has a career 107 wRC+ against lefties and already has eight steals (on 11 attempts) this year despite the fact he is hitting just .232/.280/.275 in 77 plate appearances. His eight steals are by far the most from any plater with less than 100 plate appearances -- Jarrod Dyson (95 PA), Craig Gentry (69 PA) and Jace Peterson (71 PA) each have five steals.

Indians' Rajai Davis: Feeling good after minor eye injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Davis required four stitches to seal an open wound above his left eye, which he sustained while stealing second base in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Blue Jays.

Davis wasn't forced to exit the contest as a result of the injury and passed all concussion tests afterward. He likely would have been ready to play if needed Saturday and Sunday, but poor weather in Cleveland resulted in the postponements of both games. If he's not included in the lineup when the Tribe resumes play Tuesday against the Twins in Puerto Rico, Davis should be available off the bench as a pinch hitter or late-inning defensive replacement.

Indians' Rajai Davis: Will break camp with Indians
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Davis was informed Thursday that he will make the Indians' Opening Day roster, T.J. Zuppe of The Athletic Cleveland reports.

Davis will serve as a reserve outfielder for the Indians after beating out Melvin Upton, Greg Allen and Tyler Naquin for that role. The 37-year-old is no longer a plus on defense and he hit just .235/.293/.348 across 117 games with the A's and Red Sox last season, but his speed keeps him around as a worthwhile asset -- he stole 29 bases on 36 attempts in just 366 plate appearances in 2017.

Indians' Rajai Davis: Signs minor-league deal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Davis has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Indians that includes an invitation to spring training, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Davis, who is probably best known for the home run he hit off Aroldis Chapman as a member of the Indians in the 2016 World Series, is entering his age-37 season and his career seems to be winding down. He spent most of last year with the A's before finishing the season with a 17-game run with the Red Sox. He was exactly a replacement-level player over that span (0.0 fWAR), as he is no longer a defensive asset and hit just .235/.293/.348. His top skill remains his ability to steal bases -- he stole 29 bags on 36 attempts in just 366 plate appearances last season. That speed makes him useful in fantasy leagues as long as he's seeing semi-regular playing time. However, he will face an uphill battle in that regard this season. Tyler Naquin, Mevlin Upton and Greg Allen will also be competing for a bench outfielder role during spring training.

Red Sox's Rajai Davis: Fills in for Betts
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Davis started in right field Wednesday and went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 10-7 win over the Blue Jays.

Davis filled in for the injured Mookie Betts (wrist) on Wednesday after Chris Young started in right field Tuesday night. Betts was available as a pinch hitter Wednesday, suggesting a return to the lineup is imminent. Until Betts is ready, you can expect Davis to start against right-handers and Young against lefties. The Red Sox will face Houston right-hander Brad Peacock on Thursday, so it could be a night for Davis.
