Carrington sustained a mild left ankle sprain in the final minutes of Thursday's blowout loss to Boston. However, the rookie was a full participant in Friday's practice and will likely give it a go Saturday. Carrington got the start at shooting guard Thursday, and he will likely reprise his role in the starting five if he plays Saturday.
Coach Brian Keefe said Friday that Carrington (ankle) was a full participant in practice, Varun Shankar of The Washington Post reports.
Carrington sustained a mild left ankle sprain late in Thursday's blowout loss to the Celtics. The rookie posted three points (1-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds, two assists and two blocks across 26 minutes as a starter. Carrington landed awkwardly on a layup attempt with 4:02 remaining in the fourth quarter and ultimately headed to the locker room. Carrington will start in the Wizards' regular-season opener against the Celtics on Thursday.
Carrington started in the club's final two preseason games and will remain in the starting lineup for the season opener. The 19-year-old will start at shooting guard with Bilal Coulibaly sliding to the small forward, and Jonas Valanciunas is expected to come off the bench behind Alex Sarr.
Carrington will enter the starting lineup during Monday's preseason matchup against the Nets.
With Bilal Coulibaly out due to a sprained finger, Carrington will step into the starting five for the time being. The No. 14 overall pick of the 2024 Draft played only one season of collegiate basketball at Pittsburgh, during which he averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists across 33.2 minutes per game in 33 regular-season outings.

The Wizards selected Carrington with the No. 14 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft on Wednesday.
While Carrington isn't an uber-athlete, he does have a nice feel for the game and solid size at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds. The Pitt product is comfortable scoring in the mid-range, and while he's capable of hitting the 3-ball, he does need to show more consistency in connecting from beyond the arc. He finds himself in a crowded rotation in Washington, so minutes could be tough to come by early in the season.
