  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Muted output in loss

McCain provided five points (2-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 28 minutes during Sunday's 142-134 double-overtime loss to Atlanta. McCain did not have a great night from the field and did not have much of an impact in his 28 minutes, even with the team playing in two overtime periods. On the season, McCain is averaging 6.8 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.3 threes made across 17.1 minutes.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Posts 15 off bench

McCain notched 15 points (6-13 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), one rebound and three assists in 25 minutes during Tuesday's 144-103 loss to the Magic. Ever since being cleared to play 20-plus minutes, McCain has dropped 15 points in consecutive contests, hitting five threes on nine attempts in that span. McCain figures to be one of the main contributors off the bench for Philadelphia this season, and with VJ Edgecombe (calf), Kelly Oubre (knee) and Paul George (ankle) poised to miss some time, he could see himself with a larger role short-term.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Restrictions to be eased Sunday

McCain's minutes restrictions have been raised ahead of Sunday's game against the Heat, Austin Krell of OnPattison.com reports. McCain has appeared in six of Philadelphia's past nine games after making his season debut Nov. 4. During that stretch, he's played double-digit minutes three times, never seeing more than 15 on a given night. It's unclear how many minutes he's cleared for Sunday, but with Joel Embiid (knee), VJ Edgecombe (calf), Adem Bona (ankle) and Kelly Oubre (knee) out, McCain may need to play 20-plus minutes.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Limited role continues

McCain finished Monday's 110-108 win over the Clippers with no counting stats across five minutes. McCain played fewer than 10 minutes for the sixth straight game, in three of which he has failed to see the floor. Despite coming off an injury, his return has been largely underwhelming, both in fantasy and reality. At this point, there is no reason to be holding him outside of deeper redraft formats.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Team option picked up

The 76ers picked up McCain's (thumb) team option for 2026-27 on Thursday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports. McCain's option is valued at $4.42 million, and it's not a surprise to see the franchise like up the sharpshooter. McCain practiced with the team Thursday after missing the beginning of the season recovering from thumb surgery, setting him up for a potential return in early November. It's unclear how he'll fit into the backcourt, with Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe playing so well.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Sheds cast, getting shots up

McCain (thumb) has shed his cast and has started getting shots up, Austin Krell of OnPattison.com reports Monday. McCain underwent thumb surgery back on Sept. 26, and it was estimated that he'd be out for a minimum of 4-6 weeks. We're currently at the start of the fifth week, so he'll be at the longer end of that timetable, although he is making solid progress. We'll know he's close once he's able to get through full-contact work without issue.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Goes through conditioning work

McCain (thumb) is doing conditioning work and feels like he is in game shape, Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice.com reports. McCain underwent thumb surgery Sept. 30, which is expected to cost him the start of the 2025-26 campaign. He's doing a lot of left-hand work, considering that's all he can do at this point. The current timeline for his return to the floor is Nov. 8.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Undergoes thumb surgery

McCain underwent thumb surgery Tuesday, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports. This is an expected update for the sharpshooter. On Sept. 26, it was reported that McCain would be out for 4-to-6 weeks, and there's been no indication that anything has changed. With this timetable, it's likely that McCain won't be back at 100 percent until early November. In the meantime, Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon could pick up some minutes at the edge of the rotation.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Expected to undergo thumb surgery

McCain (thumb) is expected to be out for 4-to-6 weeks, Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice.com reports. The 76ers were exploring options after McCain suffered a UCL tear in his right thumb during a workout Thursday, and it appears that surgery is the likely course of action. The timetable likely puts the 2024 first-rounder out of action to start the new campaign, but he should have a chance to return at some point early in the season. Until McCain is ready to play, veterans Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon should be able to hang onto reserve roles for Philadelphia.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Not part of Summer League roster

McCain (knee) will not be part of the team's Summer League roster, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports. McCain continues to recover from a torn meniscus in his left knee, which ended his rookie campaign after just 23 games (eight starts). It's not yet known if the 21-year-old sharpshooter will be able to participate in training camp this fall, so his rehab will remain worth monitoring up until then. Given the severity of McCain's injury, fantasy managers should expect the 76ers to take a cautious approach with the 2024 first-rounder ahead of the 2025-26 season.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Ruled out for season

The 76ers confirmed in a press release Friday that McCain (knee) will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports. After undergoing surgery Dec. 17 to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, McCain was labeled as out indefinitely. Following a checkup earlier Friday with the surgeon who performed the surgery, McCain was deemed to be progressing well in his recovery, but the 76ers are officially closing the door on his rookie season. Before suffering the knee injury, McCain had emerged as a frontrunner for NBA Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 2.2 three-pointers and 0.7 steals across 25.7 minutes per game in 23 appearances (eight starts). McCain will now turn his focus to completing his lengthy rehab and recovery process ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Undergoes successful surgery

The 76ers announced Tuesday that McCain underwent successful surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear and remains out indefinitely, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports. McCain suffered his left meniscus tear against Indiana and is set for extended absence. While Philadelphia has yet to rule the rookie guard out for the rest of the season, Eric Gordon will likely continue to receive increased playing time.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Starts second half Friday

McCain (concussion) finished with five points (2-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt), one rebound and three assists over 29 minutes during Friday's 121-107 loss to the Pacers. McCain was able to return to Friday's contest after being evaluated for a concussion, and while his output in the box score was muted, it's worth noting he started the second half for the injured Joel Embiid (face). The rookie first-rounder has shined when given the chance to be a member of the first unit this season, averaging 23.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 3.6 three-pointers in 36.6 minutes per game over eight appearances as a starter. If Embiid can't play in Monday's game against Charlotte, McCain would be a candidate to join the starting lineup and likely offer more fantasy upside if tasked with an enhanced role.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Back to bench role Friday

McCain is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Magic, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports. McCain will move back to a bench role with the return of Paul George to the starting unit. The rookie out of Duke is averaging 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 three-pointers made when coming off the bench this season.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Back in first unit

McCain will start Wednesday's game against the Magic. McCain started seven straight games before returning to the second unit for Philadelphia's previous pair of contests. He'll return to the starting five Wednesday while Paul George (rest) and Joel Embiid (knee) are sidelined. McCain averaged 23.7 points, 4.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals across those seven starts.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Lacks efficiency in loss to HOU

McCain registered 15 points (6-19 FG, 0-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, one assist and one steal over 41 minutes during Wednesday's 122-115 overtime loss to Houston. McCain has cooled off a bit after putting up impressive numbers over the last two weeks, but that kind of regression was slightly expected since he's a rookie who's still getting used to the NBA. The former Duke standout should continue to have a significant role in the 76ers offense due to Paul George (knee) and Joel Embiid (knee) being sidelined. McCain has averaged 23.7 points per game since being promoted to the starting lineup seven games ago.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Struggles with shot Sunday

McCain provided 18 points (3-15 FG, 2-11 3Pt, 10-12 FT) and four assists across 28 minutes during Sunday's 125-99 loss to the Clippers. McCain was coming off five straight games in which he'd scored at least 20 points, but the rookie saw his streak snapped in this one after a woeful shooting performance. That was bound to happen sooner rather than later, but McCain should remain one of the 76ers' go-to players on offense, especially as long as Paul George and Joel Embiid remain sidelined due to their respective knee injuries.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Strong from three in 30-point game

McCain posted 30 points (11-20 FG, 6-11 3Pt, 2-3 FT), five rebounds, three assists and two steals over 39 minutes during Friday's 113-98 win over the Nets. McCain provided Philadelphia with a nice lift offensively and from deep Friday, leading all 76ers players in threes made and scoring. McCain matched a season high in threes made, and he has now connected on at least five threes in two straight outings. He has surpassed the 30-point mark in two contests, both of which have taken place over his last five appearances.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Extends scoring streak Wednesday

McCain had 20 points (6-13 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 5-5 FT), two rebounds and five assists over 41 minutes during Wednesday's 117-111 loss to Memphis. McCain's success as a rookie has been the lone bright spot for a reeling 76ers team, and the former Duke star has scored at least 20 points in six games in a row. He's firmly entrenched as a reliable scoring weapon just one month into the regular season, and McCain could be in line for an uptick in his usage rate if Paul George (knee) is forced to miss time. McCain is averaging 25.8 points per game since being promoted to the starting lineup four games ago.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Leading scorer in Monday's loss

McCain accumulated 20 points (8-16 FG, 4-9 3Pt), four rebounds, four assists and two steals in 37 minutes during Monday's 106-89 loss to the Heat. The rookie guard led the Sixers in scoring on the night, even with Joel Embiid in the lineup for only the third time this season. McCain is red hot right now, scoring 20-plus points in five straight games while averaging 26.6 points, 4.4 assists, 4.4 threes, 2.6 boards and 0.8 steals in 33.4 minutes a contest, but his usage will take a hit once Tyrese Maxey (hamstring) is ready to return. McCain, the 16th overall pick in the 2024 Draft, has likely done enough to keep his spot in the starting five, however.
