McCain did everything except the final scrimmage, so this is essentially the same update reported after Sunday's practice. It sounds like McCain could be ready for Opening Night on Wednesday against the Bucks, but more clarity won't be known until the 76ers release their injury report Tuesday.

Philadelphia has been working back its 2024 first-round pick after a hard fall during Wednesday's preseason game against the Nets. McCain was sent to the hospital due to the fall, but he has showed signs of improvement while participating in on-court activities and drills. While the 20-year-old won't suit up for the team's scrimmage, his participation in drills bodes well for a potential return during the 76ers' regular-season opener against the Bucks on Wednesday.

76ers' Jared McCain: Trending in right direction
McCain (bruised lungs) was able to run on the treadmill without any issues Friday and is expected back for on-court activity by Saturday, Cody Taylor of USA Today reports.
McCain sustained the injury after a hard fall during Wednesday's preseason matchup against the Nets. While he is considered day-to-day ahead of Wednesday's regular-season opener versus the Bucks, it bodes well for the rookie that he will get back to practice before the regular season.

The 76ers announced Thursday that McCain has been diagnosed with a pulmonary contusion and has not displayed symptoms consistent with a concussion. The rookie guard will be out for Friday's preseason game against the Magic and will be evaluated daily, Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice.com reports.
While McCain will be sidelined for Philadelphia's preseason finale, it appears he has avoided a concussion. The rookie guard's next chance to suit up is the team's regular-season opener against Milwaukee on Oct. 23. McCain is expected to compete for bench minutes in the 76er's backcourt this season.

The 76ers announced Thursday that McCain (bruised lungs) was discharged from the hospital earlier this morning and is at home resting. He will be further evaluated later Thursday and an update will be provided as appropriate, Austin Krell of USA Today reports.
McCain was sent to the hospital after bruising his lungs during Wednesday's preseason game against the Nets. While it is good news to hear that the rookie guard has been released, the severity of his injury is unclear. McCain's next chance to suit up is Friday's preseason matchup with Orlando.

McCain took a hard fall late in the fourth quarter and appeared to have the wind knocked out of him before heading to the locker room. The specifics of McCain's injury are unknown, but part of the medical staff's evaluation is for a concussion, per Austin Krell of USA Today. It wouldn't be surprising to see the rookie held out as a precaution. After spending some time on the floor, McCain was able to walk off the hardwood and into the locker room with minimal help, which is encouraging. On a night when the 76ers rested their entire starting unit, McCain stood tall, leading all scorers with 20 points. The rookie has impressed since arriving in Philadelphia, staking his claim to be a part of the rotation come Opening Night. However, as well as he has played, it's hard to see him playing meaningful minutes on a regular basis. He has some appeal in deeper formats, but those in standard leagues can safely look elsewhere.

McCain led the 76ers in playing time by a wide margin, and there's no question the Duke product made his presence felt on both ends of the court. As good as he's looked both in the Summer League and preseason, McCain will likely struggle to crack the rotation for a win-now Sixers roster, meaning his fantasy appeal won't be very high in most formats outside of dynasty leagues -- regardless of how productive and efficient he looks in the remaining preseason games.

McCain notched 15 points (6-15 FG, 0-6 3Pt, 3-5 FT), six rebounds, three assists and two steals across 27 minutes in Monday's 102-92 win over the Thunder in the Salt Lake City Summer League.
McCain had a decent outing in the club's first Summer League game as he stuffed the stat sheet. The 20-year-old did struggle from three; however, he shot 41.4 percent from deep at Duke, so one Summer League game should not be a concern. McCain spent one season playing college hoops, during which he averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals.

76ers' Jared McCain: Goes No. 16 to Philly
McCain was selected by the 76ers with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
McCain is coming off of a strong freshman season at Duke, where he posted 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.6 minutes per game. The 20-year-old is a bit undersized, but he attacks the rim with confidence and was one of the better outside shooters in college basketball last season, knocking down 41.4 percent of his attempts. Defensively, McCain does not possess great length (6-3 wingspan), but he's a high-effort player who maintains position and fights through screens. McCain will likely come off the bench for the Sixers as a rookie, providing a shooting punch to the second unit.
