Spurs' Dylan Harper: Scores team-high 16 points
Harper scored 16 points (5-7 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT) while adding four rebounds, four assists and a steal across 19 minutes in Thursday's 123-116 preseason loss to the Hawks.
Harper was one of six players to score in double digits for the Spurs, and he led all San Antonio players in scoring. No player outside of Carter Bryant logged more than 20 minutes for the Spurs, and Harper doesn't need to log heavy minutes in preseason since he's locked into a prominent role ahead of the 2026-27 season -- even if he's not listed as a starter in the backcourt.

Spurs' Dylan Harper: Starting Thursday

The Spurs are getting a look at a three-guard lineup with De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle. It looks like Harper has a chance to start Opening Night with Tobias Harris (calf) injured.

Spurs' Dylan Harper: Aiming for expanded role
Jared Weiss of the New York Times believes coach Mitch Johnson needs to find ways to increase Harper's minutes this year.
Weiss thinks the optimal way to boost Harper's playing time would be to close games with all three of Harper, De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle on the floor. It remains to be seen how willing the Spurs will be to deploy more frequent small-ball looks, as they would then have to squeeze either Devin Vassell or Tobias Harris from the lineup more often. Harper remains one of the favorites for the Sixth Man of the Year award heading into the new campaign.
