Tonje suited up for just the sixth time at the NBA level this season, taking on a career-high minutes load on a night in which the the Celtics held out eight rotation players with minor injuries. He landed a couple of clutch three-pointers, helping to dispatch a Magic squad that had something to play for in the regular-season finale. Since Tonje is signed to a two-way contract, he won't be eligible to play for the Celtics during their upcoming playoff run.

Tonje became a free agent Sunday after his 10-day contract with the Celtics expired, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
Acquired from the Jazz ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, Tonje had been signed to a two-way deal but was converted to a 10-day contract Feb. 19. After a stint in the G League to begin his time in the organization, the second-round rookie out of Wisconsin got the chance to see his first NBA action this past week, when he appeared in two games and logged two points, two rebounds and one assist in nine total minutes. While it's unclear if the Celtics intend to retain Tonje, the team currently has three openings on the 15-man roster as well as a vacant two-way slot.

Tonje is on a two-way contract and has yet to make his NBA debut after being selected by Utah with the No. 53 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. He won't be available for Friday's game against the Heat while the deal is finalized. Tonje is averaging 18.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals through 32 appearances in the G League this season, and it wouldn't be a surprise if the Celtics dispatched the rookie to Maine to continue his development.
