Coming off the news that Adrian Peterson was arrested last weekend in Houston for allegedly resisting arrest, he hired noted attorney Rusty Hardin -- who immediately set to work painting Peterson as the victim of the club incident.

"Adrian Peterson did not resist arrest this past Saturday morning and any suggestion that he pushed, struck or shoved a Houston Police Officer is a total fabrication," Hardin said in a statement Monday. "He, in fact, was struck at least twice in the face for absolutely no legitimate reason, and when all the evidence is impartially reviewed, it will clearly show Adrian was the victim, not the aggressor.”

Hardin continued the media rounds Tuesday, telling ESPN’s NFL Live (via ESPN.com) that the Vikings running back visited a doctor to get the apparent bruise over one of his eyes checked by a medical professional.

Hardin said earlier Tuesday on KFAN that both of Peterson’s shoulders were wrenched in the brouhaha.

"We're talking about bruises, not anything that's going to affect his ability to play or anything like that," Hardin said. "…. Nobody was seriously long-term hurt, but there's no question that he was the one that got hit and not the police officer."

Hardin told KFAN (via scout.com) that multiple witnesses will say that Peterson touched no one in the melee.

“We’ve talked to everyone,” Hardin said. “He was a perfect gentleman.”

Peterson will get his first court hearing on the matter Friday in Houston.
