NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Minnesota Vikings

The Philadelphia Eagles were working on a contract extension with Dallas Goedert this summer, as the former second-round draft pick was in line to be the team's future No. 1 tight end. Those plans may have changed.

One week after Zach Ertz and the Eagles mended fences, Goedert's future became a bit cloudier.

"My representation, we talked about it earlier. We thought we'd have a deal done by this time of the year," Goedert said to reporters Monday. "But the team decided to go a different way. We haven't got that done yet."

Both Ertz and Goedert are heading for free agency this offseason, but the Eagles are committed toward having Ertz for 2021 and possibly beyond. Ertz has reiterated Philadelphia is the place "he wants to be" and where he wants to retire.

Where does that leave Goedert? The tight end market was reset after Mark Andrews landed a four-year, $56 million contract from the Baltimore Ravens -- including $37.6 million guaranteed. Andrews is now the third-highest paid tight end in the league after George Kittle and Travis Kelce

Goedert is coming off a decrease in production from a breakthrough 2019 season, catching 46 passes for 524 yards and three touchdowns in 2020. In 2019, Goedert finished with 58 catches for 607 yards and five touchdowns. Goedert is 11th among tight ends in receptions, 12th in catches, and 13th in touchdowns over the last two years -- all while being the No. 2 tight end.

Whether the Eagles pay Goedert or not, he'll get starting tight end money somewhere. The market is trending in his favor.

"I'm not too worried about it. I believe in what I can do, I believe in me being able to go out and perform and whatever happens happens," Goedert said. "But I'm not too worried about my contract right now. I just want to focus on winning games, winning the division and ultimately winning the Super Bowl."
