Everyone's got an opinion on the Redskins team name and whether or not -- when? -- it will change. Including noted Redskins fan and actor Matthew McConaughey, who seems consistently involved in the world of sports.

McConaughey, featured this month in GQ magazine, talked about a lot of stuff including the 'Skins name and how, thanks to "social consciousness" it will eventually change even if he wishes "it wouldn't."

"Man, it's two-fold. What interests me is how quickly it got pushed into the social consciousness. We were all fine with it since the 1930s, and all of a sudden we go, ‘No, gotta change it’?" McConaughey said. "It seems like when the first levee breaks, everybody gets on board. I love the emblem. I dig it. It gives me a little fire and some oomph.

"But now that it’s in the court of public opinion, it’s going to change. I wish it wouldn’t, but it will."

Alright, alright, alright.

McConaughey's take on the 'Skins nickname is basically the way any "old school" fan -- or even Dan Snyder! -- should approach it.

How, by the way, did McConaughey, who grew up in Texas, end up becoming a Redskins fan, what with 'MERICA's team right next door? Hamburgers, duh.

"Two things. First: 4 years old, watching Westerns, I always rooted for the Indians," McConaughey said. "Second, my favorite food was hamburgers. The Redskins had a linebacker named Chris Hanburger."

McConaughey was a football fan at four years old? That's ... impressive, since he probably wasn't even driving a Lincoln then.

"It's not going to hurt me. It's just ... I love the emblem. I dig it," McConaughey said. "It gives me a little fire and some oomph. But now that it's in the court of public opinion, it's going to change. I wish it wouldn't, but it will."

Unfortunately for McConaughey, the Skins don't conform to Wooderson's value system: the older he gets the more things change.
