Ravens' Lamar Jackson plans to switch to No. 1 jersey, but only after he does this one thing in Baltimore
Jackson wants to build a legacy in two different jerseys

Lamar Jackson's No. 8 Ravens jersey has long been one of the NFL's top-selling items. But if everything goes according to the star quarterback's plans, he won't be wearing that jersey for long. Appearing this week on "The Lounge," an official Ravens podcast, Jackson said he hopes to win the Super Bowl rocking his current digit, then change to jersey No. 1 for the remainder of his career.
As ESPN's Jamison Hensley notes, Jackson is serious about the idea, with goals to build a legacy in two different jerseys: "If we win the Super Bowl," he said, "I'm going to No. 1. I want the No. 1. That's my first number ever. My dad told me, 'Get No. 1 because that's the best. You're the best.' And it always stuck with me."
Jackson has only worn No. 8 since entering the NFL as a first-round pick in 2018. He wore the same number in college at Louisville after wearing No. 7 at Boynton Beach High School in South Florida. No. 1 was not taken when he joined the Ravens, but as Hensley notes, Jackson revealed on "The Lounge" that he kept No. 8 coming out of college because his mother said it represented "new beginnings."
"I want to retire No. 8 and No. 1," Jackson said on the podcast. "I want to do that here at the Ravens. So, I want to win a Super Bowl with No. 8 on, do as much as I can with No. 8 on, then come back and do the same thing with 1 on."
Jackson, of course, is still hunting a Super Bowl in his current apparel. The former MVP has gone 30-7 as a starter since taking over as the Ravens quarterback, starring as one of the league's premier dual threats, but he's had less success in the playoffs early on. Through four postseason starts, Jackson is 1-3, completing just 56% of his passes. He and the Ravens figure to be among the AFC's top challengers yet again in 2021.
