Lions' Jonathan Freeny: Signs with Detroit
Freeny signed a contract with the Lions on Monday, Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit reports.
Freeny is a seven-year veteran who finished the 2017 campaign with New Orleans after logging separate stints in Baltimore and New England. Now in Detroit, Freeny will reunite with Lions head coach Matt Patricia, who periodically coached Freeny for parts of the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons when Patricia was the defensive coordinator of the Patriots. In 18 total games under Particia, Freeny accumulated 60 tackles, one sack, one pass breakup and two forced fumbles.

Saints' Jonathan Freeny: Claimed off waivers by Saints
Freeny was claimed off waivers by the Saints on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
The move forces the Saints to cut defensive back Sterling Moore. Freeny's signing likely has to do with linebacker A.J. Klein's (groin) doubtful status for Sunday's inter-conference matchup with the Jets. Freeny did not see much of the field in his previous stop with the Patriots -- recording only two tackles in four games -- but he could be thrust into action right away for New Orleans with Klein injured and linebackers Alex Anzalone (shoulder) and Nathan Stupar (knee) on injured reserve.

Jonathan Freeny: Parts ways with New England
The Patriots released Freeny on Wednesday, Mark Daniels of The Providence Journal reports.
Freeny re-signed with the team last week to provide depth at linebacker, but was always going to have difficulty earning a long-term stay with New England. He'll lose his roster spot after the team signed defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois in a corresponding move.

Patriots' Jonathan Freeny: Re-signs with New England
The Patriots and Freeny agreed to a contract Wednesday, Doug Kyed of NESN.com reports.
Freeny, who previously appeared in 18 regular-season contests with the Patriots over the past two seasons before being released in September, will offer the team some experienced depth at outside linebacker, an area of need with Kyle Van Noy (calf) and Trevor Reilly (concussion) uncertain to play Sunday against the Dophins. With the Patriots needing to clear a roster spot next week once tight end Rob Gronkowski completes a one-game suspension, Freeny could be sent back to the free-agent pool in the near future.

Jaguars' Jonathan Freeny: Signs with Jacksonville
The Jaguars signed Freeny to a contract Tuesday, Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com reports.
To clear a roster spot for the edge rusher, the Jaguars waived defensive back Lafayette Pitts. Freeny appeared in three games for the Ravens this season before being cut earlier in October, with all of his snaps coming on special teams. It's expected that a similar role with await Freeny in Jacksonville.

Freeny signed with Baltimore a little less than a month ago but now finds himself out of the job as the team decided to bring in linebacker Steven Johnson. Freeny only played on special teams during his three-game span with the Ravens, recording two tackles in the process.
