Gipson agreed to a one-year, $2.9 million contract with the 49ers on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Gipson joined the 49ers ahead of the 2022 campaign and carved out a starting role late in the year. He tallied 61 tackles (43 solo), including 0.5 sacks, five interceptions and eight pass defenses while appearing in all 17 games. Gipson should have a chance to maintain a prominent role in San Francisco's secondary in 2023.... See More ... See Less

49ers' Tashaun Gipson: Racks up nine tackles in Week 6
Gipson had nine tackles (seven solo) in Sunday's 28-14 loss to Atlanta. Gipson finished one tackle shy of Fred Warner's team-leading total in the Week 6 loss. This was a new season high in tackles for Gipson, who has played at least 98 percent of San Francisco's defensive snaps in every game.... See More ... See Less -
49ers' Tashaun Gipson: Hits practice squad
Gipson reverted to the 49ers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Gipson drew the start at free safety in San Francisco's season opener after being elevated from the team's practice squad Saturday. The veteran recorded three tackles while playing all but one of the 49ers' defensive snaps against the Bears. Gipson is now eligible for two more practice squad elevations, which should help provide the team additional roster flexibility while Jimmie Ward (hamstring) sits out on IR until Week 5.... 49ers' Tashaun Gipson: Jumps to active roster
The 49ers elevated Gipson to the active roster Saturday, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports. The 10-year pro joined the 49ers on Aug. 22, and while he didn't survive roster cuts Aug. 30, he landed on the team's practice squad two days later. With Jimmie Ward (hamstring) on IR to start the season, Saturday's move may be a common one over the first four weeks to ensure suitable depth at safety for San Francisco.... See More ... See Less -
Tashaun Gipson: Joins San Fran's practice squad
The 49ers signed Gipson to the practice squad Wednesday. Gipson initially signed with San Francisco on Aug. 22 after playing in a starting safety role with the Bears over the past two seasons, but he was let go amidst the team's final round of roster cuts Tuesday. The 32-year-old will now be eligible to sign with an active roster elsewhere while on the 49ers' practice squad.... See More ... See Less -
Tashaun Gipson: Released by San Fran
The 49ers released Gipson on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Gipson operated as a starter in back-to-back seasons with the Bears before signing a one-year deal with San Francisco a week ago. However, the veteran defensive back now finds himself among a wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline. Gipson has recorded at least 40 tackles and one interception in nine straight seasons, so he figures to garner at least some attention as a free agent.... See More ... See Less -
49ers' Tashaun Gipson: Inks deal with San Francisco
Gipson signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Monday. Gipson will head to San Francisco after back-to-back seasons in a starting safety role with Chicago. After recording the second-highest single-season tackle mark (66) of his career in 2020, the 32-year-old followed up with a subpar 2021 campaign in which he posted just 47 tackles while playing a career-low 628 defensive snaps over 12 starts. Gipson should now provide veteran depth behind free safety Jimmie Ward with the 49ers.... See More ... See Less -
Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Moved to COVID-19 list
Gipson landed on the reserve COVID-19 list Sunday, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports. The Bears continue to struggle with COVID-19 cases, and losing Gipson for any length of time is a blow for Chicago since he's an integral part of the team's defensive scheme. This will likely mean more snaps for the likes of Teez Tabor, Marqui Christian or Deon Bush.... See More ... See Less -
Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Questionable against Niners
Gipson (hip) is considered questionable for the Bears' Week 8 contest against the 49ers on Sunday. Gipson was forced to miss the Bears' Week 7 matchup against the Buccaneers dealing with a hip injury he suffered after Week 6. The safety was limited in practice every day leading up to Week 8, so expect Gipson to be a game-time decision. If Gipson is unable to play, Deandre Houston-Carson will likely fill in at safety against the 49ers.... See More ... See Less -
Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Notches sack
Gipson recorded a sack and three tackles in the Bears' 20-9 win over the Raiders on Sunday. This was Gipson's first action since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2, and he's collected exactly three tackles in each game he's played this year. His lack of solid tackle numbers make him a low-floor IDP option.... See More ... See Less -
Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Practices in full Wednesday
Gipson (hamstring) was a full participant at practice Wednesday. Gipson missed the past two games with the hamstring injury but was able to practice Wednesday with no limitations. The veteran safety appears on track to be back on the field for the Bears this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Ready to go for Week 1
Gipson (back) is active for Sunday's Week 1 contest against the Rams. Gipson will be ready to go for the season-opening game despite only managing limited practices throughout the week. His presence should be a big help to the Bears' defense as it looks to contain the Rams' strong receiving corps.... See More ... See Less -
Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Another productive season
Gipson recorded three tackles in Chicago's 35-16 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Gipson was a solid starter for the Bears, posting 66 tackles and a pair of interceptions. He'll be going to the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, but whether he's with Chicago or another team, as long as he's in the starting lineup, he should continue to be a strong IDP option.... Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Fine to play Week 17
Gipson (neck) is active for Sunday's game against the Packers. Gipson was designated on the team's injury report as having a neck issue throughout the week, but he ultimately was still capable of logging three full practice sessions between Wednesday and Friday. He's expectedly gained clearance for the all-important NFC North showdown, aligning Gipson for his 16th start of the season at strong safety. He's totaled 63 tackles, seven pass deflections and two interceptions coming into Sunday's tilt.... See More ... See Less -
Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Good for Week 9
Gipson (foot) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Titans, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. The veteran safety was limited at practice all week but is ready to take the field this weekend. Gipson has played all but one defensive snap this season and should remain in his every-down role at Tennessee.... See More ... See Less -
Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Dealing with injury
Gipson (foot) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice. Gipson had a busy game in last week's loss to the Saints, racking up eight tackles across 73 of 74 defensive snaps. It's unclear how serious the injury is, as the team could be electing to rest the Wyoming product. If Gipson were to suffer a setback, Deon Bush would be in line for the start at strong safety.... Bears' Tashaun Gipson: Can't practice Wednesday
Gipson did not practice Wednesday due to a lower back injury, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports. Gipson is the clear leading candidate to win Chicago's strong safety gig in training camp, but he'd still be well served to get back to practice as soon as possible. As the 30-year-old veteran works to master the Bears' defensive scheme, maximizing his practice reps would no doubt be beneficial.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Tashaun Gipson: Sent to IR
Gipson (lower back) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. According to Wilson, Gipson aggravated a transverse process fracture in his lower back while playing in Sunday's game against Tennessee. The 29-year-old originally suffered the injury in Week 7, but also dealt with hip and wrist injuries throughout the season. The Wyoming product finishes 2019 with 51 tackles (37 solo), eight pass breakups and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Tashaun Gipson: Should play Sunday
Gipson (back/wrist) is expected to play Sunday at Baltimore, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. Gipson missed the last two games but looks as though he'll be able to make his return coming out of the bye week. The absences are notable for the 29-year-old since he previously hadn't missed a game since 2015.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Tashaun Gipson: Due back after bye
Gipson (back) said he will return after the Texans' Week 10 bye, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. Gipson has missed two games due to the injury and has the luxury of a bye week to fully recover. While players' public assessments of their own recoveries are not always accurate, Jahleel Addae is likely headed back to a depth role as soon as Week 11 against Baltimore.... See More ... See Less
