The Broncos cut Williams on Friday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Williams had a handful of impressive preseason runs against second- and third-string defenses, but it wasn't enough to earn a spot on the initial 53-man roster. His departure increases the chances that any of Devontae Booker, Khalfani Muhammad and Devontae Jackson will earn depth spots.

Broncos' Dave Williams: Runs for 18 yards
Williams ran for 18 yards on three carries during Saturday's 10-6 loss to the Rams.
Williams' 20-yard, third-quarter run was Denver's longest play from scrimmage on offense. Even with a relatively efficient night, Williams is still averaging just 3.2 yards per carry this preseason and has dealt with drops in the passing game. He has fallen back in the roster battle for RB4, a spot likely to make the roster given Theo Riddick's (shoulder) likely absence to start the season.

Broncos' Dave Williams: Signing with Denver
Williams signed a contract with the Broncos on Thursday, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Williams was drafted by the Broncos in the seventh round of last-year's draft but was waived prior to the regular season. He was ultimately picked up by the Jaguars and he appeared in six games for the team, rushing for 36 yards on eight carries. He'll now set his sights on securing a depth running back position with Denver.

Dave Williams: Waived by Jaguars
Williams was waived by the Jaguars on Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.
The Jaguars continue to clear room for rookie signings in advance of Friday's opening day of minicamp. A 2018 seventh-rounder out of Arkansas, Williams logged only eight carries his first year but nonetheless finished with a respectable 4.5-yard average. He should be able to find another opportunity elsewhere.

Jaguars' Dave Williams: Minimal role in finale
Williams carried twice for two yards and was not targeted as a receiver in Sunday's loss to the Texans.
Williams curiously saw only four offensive snaps despite the fact Leonard Fournette (ankle) was inactive and T.J. Yeldon remained firmly on the bench all game. Carlos Hyde played a 91-percent snap share but produced only 19 yards on 12 touches. Coach Doug Marrone previously said the team was looking to "see what he can do," yet Williams barely saw the field in a meaningless Week 17 game in which they trailed 17-3 at halftime. The 24-year-old officially appeared in six games for the Jaguars, rushing eight times for 36 yards. Jacksonville's running-back situation is anything but stable, with Yeldon headed for free agency and the team recently voiding the remaining guarantees on Fournette's contract.

Jaguars' Dave Williams: In line for more work
Williams and T.J. Yeldon could split the work out of the Jaguars backfield Sunday at Houston with Leonard Fournette (foot/ankle) doubtful and Carlos Hyde (knee) questionable for the contest, John Oehser of the team's official site reports.
Nearing the end of a lost season, Jacksonville may opt for a cautious approach with its veteran RBs. If both Fournette (as expected) and Hyde land on the inactive list, Williams and Yeldon would be the remaining options at running back. In five brief appearances this season, Williams has notched 34 yards on six carries and gone without a target.

Jaguars' Dave Williams: Silent in win
Williams did not record a touch during Sunday's 17-7 win over Miami.
Even with T.J. Yeldon sitting as a healthy scratch, Williams did not touch the ball as Leonard Fournette piled up 21 touches and Carlos Hyde added eight. The rookie was solid in limited action in Week 15 against Washington, but evidently still finds himself no higher than third in the pecking order. Even if he gets more action in the season finale, a league-best Houston run defense should give him and his stablemates some problems.

Jaguars' Dave Williams: Receives five carries
Williams rushed five times for 32 yards in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Redskins.
Coach Doug Marrone said after the game that Williams has shown well at practice and the team was looking to "see what he can do," John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports, as he had only one carry for the season entering Sunday. Carlos Hyde -- who was acquired in October for a fifth-round pick -- was a healthy scratch against Washington, so it appears Williams may serve as the team's No. 3 running back for the closing stretch.

Jaguars' Dave Williams: Officially signs with Jags
Williams was signed off the Broncos' practice squad by the Jaguars on Tuesday.
As expected, with Corey Grant (foot) headed for injured reserve and Leonard Fournette (hamstring) still out for at least another week or two, Williams will join the Jaguars from Denver's practice squad to bolster the team's depth at the position. He will likely be the No. 3 running back for the time being with T.J. Yeldon and newly-signed Jamaal Charles operating as No. 1 and 2, respectively.

Jaguars' David Williams: Appears to be headed to Jacksonville
Williams is expected to sign with Jacksonville, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Williams' expecting signing comes on the heels of Jacksonville's depth issues at the position. With the news of Corey Grant (foot) headed to IR, the Jaguars are in the market for a depth running back. It's tough to speculate what type of role Williams could have with the offense, but the expectations should be set low given his youth and unfamiliarity with the system.

With Williams and De'Angelo Henderson both handed pink slips, Phillip Lindsay is left as the No. 3 RB behind Devontae Booker and Royce Freeman. It won't come as any surprise if the Broncos make room for Williams on their practice squad.
