Jace Sternberger: Signs with practice squad
Sternberger signed with the Steelers' practice squad Tuesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Sternberger was selected in the third round of the 2019 Draft by the Packers, appearing in a total of 18 games for them. In 2020 he recorded 12 catches on 15 targets for 114 yards and a touchdown in 12 games. Before the 2021 season began, Sternberger was waived by the Packers and has since spent time with Seattle and Washington. With Eric Ebron (knee) likely to miss extended time, Sternberger will provide emergency tight end depth for the Steelers from the practice squad.... See More ... See Less
Jace Sternberger: Waived by WFT
Sternberger was waived by Washington on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old was added to the team Oct. 6 after Logan Thomas (hamstring) was place on injured reserve but failed to play in any contests. With Thomas likely returning following Washington's bye in Week 9, they no longer need Sternberger. The tight end will either be claimed by another team, moved to the practice squad or out right released.... See More ... See Less
Football Team's Jace Sternberger: Signs with Washington
Washington signed Sternberger from Seattle's practice squad Wednesday, independent NFL reporter Dov Kleiman reports.
Sternberger spent two weeks on the Seahawks' practice squad after he was waived by the Packers in mid-September, and he'll now serve as depth at tight end for Washington after Logan Thomas (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve. The 25-year-old appeared in 12 games for Green Bay last year and hauled in 12 of his 15 targets for 114 yards and a touchdown.... See More ... See Less
Jace Sternberger: Links up with Seattle
Sternberger was signed to the Seahawks' practice squad Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
The 2019 third-round pick passed through waivers unclaimed after being let go by the Packers on Tuesday, but he found a new home with the Seahawks. Sternberger caught 12 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown in 12 games during 2020, and he was suspended for the first two games of this season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.... Jace Sternberger: Clears waivers
Sternberger went unclaimed on waivers Wednesday and is now a free agent, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Sternberger has concluded his two-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, making him eligible to suit up for game action as soon as he finds a new home in the league. Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Packers will attempt to re-sign Sternberger to their practice squad, but the 2019 third-round pick could still end up finding an opportunity on a 53-man roster with another club.... Jace Sternberger: Time in Green Bay comes to end
Sternberger (suspension) will be waived by the Packers on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Sternberger opened the 2021 season with a two-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, and rather than add him back to the active roster, the Packers are opting to send the 2019 third-round pick to waivers. Across 18 career games in Green Bay the tight end only racked up 12 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown, and Robert Tonyan is entrenched as the team's top option at the position. A fresh start could be the best scenario for Sternberger's prospects.... See More ... See Less
Packers' Jace Sternberger: Remains with Packers for now
Sternberger made the Packers' roster but will open the season on the reserve/suspended list.
With Sternberger having an inconsistent training camp and facing a two-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, the Packers could have opted to release him on cut-down day. However, with the team able to place him on the suspended list without occupying a roster spot, they decided to keep him around for the time being. The Packers will have another decision to make when Sternberger is eligible to return in Week 3, and there is still a chance he could be sent packing at that point.... See More ... See Less
Packers' Jace Sternberger: Finds paydirt in preseason game
Sternberger was targeted three times and caught two passes for five yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Jets.
Sternberger hauled in a five-yard touchdown pass from Kurt Benkert in the second quarter of Saturday's contest, but he also mishandled a third-down pass earlier in the game that would have given the Packers a first down, so it was not the clean showing he could have used to secure a spot on the roster. Sternberger will have one more chance to impress before the Packers decide to keep him around -- and place him on the suspended list to start the season -- or move on.... See More ... See Less
Packers' Jace Sternberger: Could be on roster bubble
Sternberger (suspension) could be on the roster bubble, according to Bill Huber of PackerCentral.com.
Sternberger caught three passes for 35 yards in the Packers' preseason opener against the Texans and hauled in a 34-yard pass from Jordan Love on the Packers' only scoring drive of the night. However, tight ends coach Justin Outten was not complimentary when asked about Sternberger on Sunday and said the team still needs to see more consistency from the player. The Packers have a lot of tight ends they like, so even though Sternberger was a third-round pick just two years ago, he isn't assured of making the cut. Even if he does, he won't be eligible to play Weeks 1 or 2, as he was handed a two-game suspension over the offseason for violating the league's substance abuse policy.... See More ... See Less
Packers' Jace Sternberger: Handed two-game ban
Sternberger was suspended for the first two games of the 2021 season Thursday for violating the league's substance abuse policy, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
According to Sternberger's personal twitter account, the suspension stems from an incident in 2020. The Texas A&M product recorded just 12 catches last year, and he's destined for a depth role again in 2021 behind Robert Tonyan. Sternberger will be eligible to return to the team following Week 2's Monday night clash with Detroit.... See More ... See Less
Packers' Jace Sternberger: Season cut short by injury
Sternberger caught 12 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown over 12 regular-season games with the Packers in 2020.
Sternberger played about 30 percent of the snaps on a per-game basis for the first three quarters of the season, but he went out with a head injury in early December, and he was a healthy scratch the rest of the way after clearing the concussion protocol in early January. He hasn't quite given the Packers the production they were looking for when they selected him in the third round in 2019, but he has also dealt with injuries in both his seasons as a pro. The Packers will likely give Sternberger another shot to show what he can do in 2021, but the team has quality depth at his position, so he may need to compete for a roster spot in training camp.... Packers' Jace Sternberger: Inactive Sunday
Sternberger (coach's decision) will be inactive for Saturday's matchup with the Rams, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
Sternberger was a healthy scratch in the Packers' regular-season finale after clearing concussion protocol. Green Bay is opting to continue rolling with Dominique Dafney as its No. 3 tight end behind Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis. As a result, Sternberger will watch the team's playoff matchup from the sidelines.... See More ... See Less

The 24-year-old cleared the concussion protocol this week after missing the past three games, but he still ended up a healthy scratch for the final game of the regular season. Robert Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis and Dominique Dafney are Green Bay's three active tight ends Sunday.... See More ... See Less
Packers' Jace Sternberger: Remains limited in practice
Sternberger (concussion) was limited during Thursday's practice session.
Since sustaining his concussion Dec. 6 during a win over Philadelphia, Sternberger has missed three consecutive games. The 24-year-old has proven capable of submitting consecutive limited sessions between Wednesday and Thursday, however, a stark improvement compared to last week, when he sat out all three of the Packers' practices. He'll still have to clear league concussion protocol, but Sternberger is trending in the right direction heading into a Sunday late afternoon kickoff at Chicago.... See More ... See Less

Sternberger (concussion) won't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Bears, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
Sternberger has cleared the league's five-step concussion protocol and will return to action after a three-game absence. Robert Tonyan has established himself as the top tight end in Green Bay's offense. Sternberger has yet to play more than 28 snaps in a game as a result.... See More ... See Less
Packers' Jace Sternberger: Back at practice
Sternberger (concussion) practiced in limited fashion Wednesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
