  • Kerrith Whyte: Signs with practice squad

The Lions signed Whyte to the practice squad Wednesday. The Steelers cut Whyte on Saturday, but the versatile RB/WR/KR found a new landing spot. With Kenny Golladay (hamstring) and Danny Amendola (hamstring) battling injuries, Whyte serves as additional depth going into Week 1.

  • Kerrith Whyte: Let go by Pittsburgh

Whyte was waived by the Steelers on Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Whyte played in six games with the Steelers, though most of that was as a kick returner. The arrival of Ray-Ray McCloud basically pushed Whyte aside, though it's entirely possible the scatback could be a part of the team's practice squad plans if he passes through waivers.

  • Steelers' Kerrith Whyte: Returning kicks during scrimmage

Whyte (groin) returned kicks during Friday's scrimmage, Brooke Pryor of reports. Head coach Mike Tomlin relayed that Whyte was day-to-day earlier Friday, but the 23-year-old running back's work as a returner should mean he's good to go moving forward. It'll be tough for Whyte to secure a roster spot this year, but perhaps a strong showing as a returner can do the trick.

  • Steelers' Kerrith Whyte: Managing groin injury

  • Steelers' Kerrith Whyte: Non-factor on offense

Whyte ran for one yard on three carries in Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Ravens. Even with James Conner (quadriceps) inactive, Whyte played a minimal role on offense and finishes the 2019 season with 122 yards on 24 carries in six games. Most of that (84 yards) came in two games in which he also caught his only target for nine yards. The Steelers' backfield is unsettled heading into 2020, but Whyte is unlikely to have a major role.

  • Steelers' Kerrith Whyte: Usage take a hit

Whyte ran for five yards on two carries in Pittsburgh's 17-10 loss to Buffalo on Sunday night. Signed just one month ago to provide depth in Pittsburgh's beleaguered running game, it should come as no surprise that Whyte's role would be greatly diminished by the return of James Conner. At this point there is little reason to have Whyte on fantasy rosters.

  • Steelers' Kerrith Whyte: Totals 50 yards from scrimmage

Whyte totaled 41 yards on five carries and caught his only target for nine yards in Pittsburgh's 23-17 win over Arizona on Sunday. Benny Snell continues to be the primary running back with James Conner (shoulder) still unable to play, but Whyte seems to have pulled even with -- if not ahead of -- Jaylen Samuels in the ground game. In the past three games, Whyte has rushed 14 times for 94 yards compared to 54 yards on 16 carries for Samuels. The anticipated return of Conner in Week 15 against the Bills could diminish Whyte's fantasy value while Samuels could still play a role in the passing game.

  • Steelers' Kerrith Whyte: Joining Pittsburgh

Whyte signed a contract with the Steelers on Saturday. Facing a mountain of injuries following Thursday's literal slugfest against the Browns, Whyte is expected to be an insurance policy in the case James Conner (shoulder) or Benny Snell (knee) is unable to play Week 12 against the Bengals.

  • Bears' Kerrith Whyte: Unimpressive effort

Whyte carried four times for eight yards while adding a seven-yard reception in Chicago's 27-17 win over the Colts on Saturday. Whyte totaled 18 yards on 10 carries over the last two preseason games, and he's squarely on the roster bubble as the Bears close out the preseason.

  • Bears' Kerrith Whyte: Finds end zone

Whyte rushed six times for 10 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 32-13 preseason loss to the Giants on Friday. Rushing for fewer than two yards per carry certainly won't help him in his quest to make the 53-man roster, but with Ryan Nall and Taquan Mizzell both having lackluster performances as well, Whyte should still find himself competing for the No. 4 running back role as the preseason continues.

  • Bears' Kerrith Whyte: Posts 35 rushing yards

Whyte had six carries for 35 yards while adding a seven-yard reception in the Bears' 23-13 preseason loss to the Panthers on Thursday. Playing against the deepest reserve defenders of the Panthers, Whyte broke off a 23-yard run to give him a respectable 42 yards over seven touches. After being selected by the Bears in the seventh round of this year's draft, he'll continue to battle for the No. 4 running back job, and he may need to perform well on special teams to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

  • Bears' Kerrith Whyte: Drafted by Chicago

The Bears selected Whyte in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 222nd overall. Largely overshadowed by Devin Singletary at Florida Atlantic, Whyte (5-foot-10, 197 pounds) profiles more as more of a return specialist than traditional tailback at the pro level after averaging 26.1 yards per kickoff return in 2018. It'll be interesting to see how he'll fit in with a roster that also includes two other useful return men in Cordarrelle Patterson and Tarik Cohen.
