• Jarquez Hunter: Fresh start with New Orleans

  Rotowire Oct 14, 2026

The Saints signed Hunter to the practice squad Wednesday. Hunter was cut from the Dolphins' practice squad Tuesday, but it didn't take long for the 2025 fourth-rounder to find a new opportunity with the Saints. Lead back Travis Etienne (hamstring) is on injured reserve, and with Alvin Kamara still working through a back issue, Hunter is a candidate to be elevated to the Saints' active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Giants on Sunday.

• Jarquez Hunter: Waived by Miami

  Rotowire Aug 30, 2026

The Dolphins waived Hunter on Sunday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. The Rams traded Hunter to the Dolphins just this past Thursday in return for wide receiver Tutu Atwell. If the team was not set on making Hunter a member of the initial 53-man roster, it is unclear why it went ahead with the trade. Hunter did not play in a preseason game with the Dolphins. The running back will now be placed on waivers. If the 23-year-old remains unclaimed, there is a good chance he will sign with the practice squad of the Rams or Dolphins.

  Rotowire Jan 25, 2026

Hunter (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against Seattle, Nate Atkins of The Athletic reports. Hunter will take a seat for the second straight week after playing 13 snaps on special teams in the Rams' win over the Panthers in the wild-card round. Ronnie Rivers will serve as the team's No. 3 option at running back behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum versus the Seahawks.

• Rams' Jarquez Hunter: Only used on special teams

  Rotowire Jan 5, 2026

Hunter recorded 22 snaps on special teams over five games during the 2025 regular season. A fourth-round pick out of Auburn, Hunter's progress was stalled by the emergence of Blake Corum as the complement to veteran Kyren Williams in the Rams' backfield. The duo combined for a 404-1,998-16 rushing line over the 2025 campaign, leaving little room for Hunter or Ronnie Rivers to produce. Corum and Williams are signed through 2028 and 2029 respectively, meaning Hunter is unlikely to see much improvement in his situation in 2026, even with Rivers possibly leaving as an unrestricted free agent.

• Rams' Jarquez Hunter: Healthy inactive for London game

  Rotowire Oct 19, 2025

Hunter (coach's decision) is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars in London. After being inactive for the Rams' season-opening win over the Texans, Hunter had suited up for each of Los Angeles' subsequent five games, but the rookie running back had been used exclusively on special teams. At least for one week, Hunter appears to have lost out on that meager role, as practice-squad call-up Ronnie Rivers will be active as depth behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum in addition to taking on Hunter's responsibilities on special teams.

• Rams' Jarquez Hunter: Gets 11 carries in preseason win

  Rotowire Aug 10, 2025

Hunter rushed 11 times for 41 yards and wasn't targeted in Saturday's 31-21 preseason win over the Cowboys. He also had a 21-yard kickoff return. Hunter returned the opening kickoff but didn't get his first touch on offense until the Rams' second drive. Both that possession and the first one were capped by Blake Corum touchdown runs, as Corum took advantage of the team sitting starter Kyren Williams. Hunter continued to play into the second half, and it looks like the rookie fourth-round pick is sitting firmly in third on the running depth chart behind Williams and Corum heading into the Rams' second preseason game against the Chargers on Aug. 16.

• Rams' Jarquez Hunter: Added to Rams backfield

  Rotowire Apr 26, 2025

The Rams selected Hunter in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 117th overall. Hunter began his first two seasons at Auburn as the backup to Tank Bigsby before claiming the lead role in 2023, rushing for 2,110 yards and 15 touchdowns on 346 carries over his final two seasons with the Tigers. Coming from a weightlifting background, Hunter doesn't lack for strength, and he projects as a downhill runner who can be difficult to bring down when he gets rolling. He joins an already young backfield that sports draft picks in each of the last few seasons at the top -- Kyren Williams (2022) as the starter and Blake Corum (2024) as the top backup -- and he'll likely fit in alongside Corum vying for reserve snaps behind Williams.
