  • Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Ruled out

Ruiz (concussion) will not play in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, John DeShazier of the Saints' official site reports. It's no surprise that Ruiz has been ruled out, as he suffered a concussion during Week 3's loss to Green Bay and did not participate in practice throughout the week. Backup guard Andrus Peat is expected to fill in for the 24-year-old this coming Sunday.

  • Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Misses practice Wednesday

Ruiz (concussion) was unavailable for the Saints' practice Wednesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Ruiz suffered a concussion in the team's 18-17 Week 3 loss to the Packers, so his absence Wednesday doesn't come as a surprise. The offensive lineman will have two more practices this week to log at least a limited session before Sunday's matchup with Tampa Bay.

Ruiz (concussion) will not return to Sunday's game against the Packers, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. With the starting guard out, backup Andrus Peat will presumably step in on the right side of New Orleans' offensive line.

  • Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Inks extension

Ruiz and the Saints agreed Saturday on a four-year, $44 million contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The Saints declined Ruiz's $14.18 million fifth-year option for the 2024 season earlier this month, but they'll end up keeping the right guard in the fold on a longer-term basis at a slight annual discount. He has played and started in 31 out of a possible 34 games over the previous two seasons and will remain a key cog along the offensive line for the foreseeable future.

  • Saints' Cesar Ruiz: Dropping pounds

Ruiz (foot) has been cutting down his weight, while he recovers from a Lisfranc injury, Terrin Waack of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Ruiz is still rehabbing his injury, although he is expected to be ready to compete during training camp. In the process, he's been able to cut back some weight, which should help in the recovery of his foot injury. Assuming he does regain full health by the start of the season, he should remain the Saints' starter at right guard.

The 23-year-old guard has started in 40 out of the 46 games he suited up for since he was drafted by New Orleans in 2020, and he'll now have a chance to cash out next year should he continue to perform well.
