  • 49ers' Trenton Cannon: Out of hospital

Cannon (concussion) has been released from the hospital, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Cannon left Sunday's game against the Seahawks in an ambulance after taking a knee to the head on the opening kickoff. It was since reported that he was in stable condition, and his release from the hospital is optimistic news. Still, he will remain in the team's concussion protocol for the time being.

  • 49ers' Trenton Cannon: In stable condition after scary hit

Cannon, who left Sunday's game in an ambulance after taking a knee to the head on the opening kickoff, "is in stable condition and will stay the night at the hospital," according to the 49ers' official Twitter account.

The inadvertent shot Cannon took to his head certainly looked scary, but fortunately he appears to have avoided a serious injury.

  • 49ers' Trenton Cannon: Leaves contest in ambulance

Cannon (concussion) won't return to Sunday's contest against the Seahawks, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.

Cannon had to be taken off the field in an ambulance after getting hurt on the opening kickoff. More information on Cannon's status will likely be available later in the day, but in the meantime, Ambry Thomas will likely takeover as the primary kick returner for the remainder of the contest.

  • 49ers' Trenton Cannon: Injuries could open up opportunity

Cannon could see his role expand with all three running backs ahead of him on the depth chart dealing with injuries.

Cannon -- who was signed mid-week prior to Sunday's win over the Eagles -- received one carry for minus-1 yard after Elijah Mitchell (shoulder), Trey Sermon (concussion) and JaMycal Hasty (ankle) all went down to injury. Only the latter is confirmed to have a long-term injury, so Cannon isn't guaranteed to start against the Packers on Sunday. The team also is bringing in a trio of veteran backs (T.J. Yeldon, Duke Johnson and Lamar Miller) to work out this week, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. Cannon still could be worth a speculative add in the event the 49ers' current backs have to sit out, and the veteran options aren't ready to play.

  • Ravens' Trenton Cannon: Lightly used on offense

Cannon had two carries for five yards Monday against the Raiders.

The recently signed runner saw little action in his Baltimore debut, playing just nine of 68 offensive snaps. As expected, most of Cannon's playing time came on special teams (15 snaps). Ty'Son Williams and Latavius Murray saw the majority of the carries out of the backfield Monday. Baltimore hosts Kansas City in Week 2.

  • Trenton Cannon: Cut by Baltimore

The Ravens waived Cannon on Tuesday, Clifton Brown of Baltimore's official page reports.

Cannon played nine offensive snaps and 15 special teams snaps in the season opener. The move will make room for either Le'Veon Bell or Devonta Freeman to be elevated from the practice squad.

  • 49ers' Trenton Cannon: New home in San Francisco

The 49ers claimed Cannon off waivers Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Cannon was the clear No. 3 running back for the Ravens' reconfigured backfield Monday at Las Vegas, earning nine snaps on defense and 15 on special teams en route to two carries for five yards and one tackle. Baltimore promptly waived him Tuesday, only for similarly RB-needy San Francisco to scoop him up. With all of Elijah Mitchell, JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon in front of him, it'll be difficult for Cannon to be much more than a special teamer on his new squad.
