Hassell was let go by the Browns on Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
Hassell spent last season with the Browns, being called up from the practice squad a third of the way through the season. In four games last season, he recorded seven tackles (five solo).

Browns' J.T. Hassell: Promoted to active roster
The Browns signed Hassell to the active roster from the practice squad Thursday.
Hassell's spot on the 53-man roster comes following the placement of Morgan Burnett (Achilles) on IR. The undrafted rookie out of Florida Tech projects to play a depth role in Cleveland's secondary and contribute on special teams.
