Player Outlook
Slye bounced around the league a little bit in 2021, but he seemed to find a home in Washington over the last two months of the season. Slye made all 12 of his field goals and 9-10 extra points in his six games with the Commanders. Because of his mediocre track record and the Commanders' lack of offensive upside, Slye can be left on the waiver wire.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Earns two-year contract

Slye signed a two-year contract with the Commanders on Monday. The full terms of Slye's deal have yet to be disclosed, though Ian Rapoport of NFL Network notes the deal is worth nearly $5 million. Though he appeared in just six games with Washington last season, Slye impressed enough to earn a two-year commitment from the team. In those six contests, he converted all 12 of his field-goal attempts and nine of 10 extra-point tries.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Tendered by Commanders

Syle received a one-year, $2.4 million tender from the Commanders on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Slye appeared in six games for Washington last year and converted all 12 of his field-goal attempts while making nine of 10 extra-point tries. After spending time with three teams in 2021, the 25-year-old is the leading candidate to serve as the Commanders' kicker heading into 2022. He'll still face competition from Brian Johnson, whom Washington tendered earlier this week.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Remains effective in win

Slye made all three of his field-goal attempts while converting his lone extra-point try in Sunday's 22-7 win over the Giants. Slye was consistent late in the regular season, as he made all four of his kicks in each of the final two games of the year. The 25-year-old spent the second half of the season with Washington and missed three games with a hamstring injury, but he made all 12 of his field-goal attempts while converting nine of 10 extra-point tries during his six appearances with the club. In total, he took the field in 12 games with Houston, San Francisco and Washington and converted 23 of 25 field-goal attempts while making 18 of 22 extra-point tries.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Puts up 10 points in loss

Slye made all three of his field-goal attempts as well as his lone extra-point try in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Eagles. Slye continues to be perfect on his field-goal tries for Washington. He's made all nine of his attempts in five games while missing just one of nine extra-point opportunities.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Getting nod at kicker Sunday

Slye will serve as Washington's kicker Sunday versus the Eagles. Washington currently has two kickers on the active roster, and for a second consecutive game, Slye is getting the nod over Brian Johnson, who is inactive. In his first game action last Sunday since Week 12, Slye didn't see much work in a 56-14 loss at Dallas, making both extra points and not getting a chance at a field-goal attempt. He'll aim for a more fruitful performance in Week 17.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Quiet in first game back

Slye didn't attempt a field goal and made both of his extra-point tries during Sunday's 56-14 loss to the Cowboys. Slye was activated off IR by Washington on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring injury and played in his first game since Week 12. The 25-year-old kicker didn't get much work as Washington fell behind 21-0 early in the first quarter and had to play catch-up the rest of the way. Barring another blowout, Slye is expected to get a few more opportunities against the Eagles in Week 17.

Slye is active for Sunday night's game against the Cowboys. He'll handle Washington's kicking duties in Week 16, with Brian Johnson having been made inactive by the team. Slye, who last suited up in Week 12, was activated off IR by Washington on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring injury.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Practice window opens

Washington designated Slye (hamstring) for return from injured reserve Thursday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. Slye was forced to IR after pulling his hamstring following a blocked field-goal attempt Week 12 against the Seahawks. After sitting out the mandatory three games, he now has a 21-day window in which to prove his health at practice, with the potential Washington activates him before Sunday's game at Dallas. In nine games for three teams this season, Slye has made 17 of 19 FGAs and 14 of 18 point-after tries.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Hits injured reserve

Slye (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. Slye thus will miss at least three games as a result of the pulled hamstring he sustained during Monday's win against the Seahawks. With a multi-week absence in store for Slye, Washington signed Brian Johnson off the Bears' practice squad in a corresponding move.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Will miss time

Coach Ron Rivera said Tuesday that Slye (hamstring) will miss "a few weeks," JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. Slye suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's 17-15 win over Seattle, and he was subsequently limited to extra-point tries but unable to attempt field goals. Depending on the severity of his injury, Slye could be a candidate for a stint on IR, but no matter the case Washington will now need to pursue other options at placekicker. The Football Team does not currently have a kicker on the practice squad.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Questionable to return

Slye (hamstring) is available for extra-point attempts but will not attempt any field goals for the rest of Monday's game against Seattle, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. Slye suffered a hamstring injury while trying to chase down a blocked extra-point attempt in the first half. He's been officially deemed questionable to return, though Washington opted to go for two rather than attempt an extra point on their first score in the second half. In addition, Tress Way -- Washington's punter -- was seen warming up for kicks on the sideline, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Hurts hamstring Monday

Slye suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's game versus the Seahawks. When his PAT was blocked and returned for a touchdown near the end of the first half, Slye made chase but tumbled to the ground on the play. He was favoring his left leg thereafter and now may not return to action Monday. In Slye's place, Tress Way will handle placekicking duties for Washington.

  • Football Team's Joey Slye: Perfect once again

Slye converted both of his field-goal attempts while making all three of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 27-21 win over the Panthers. Slye has had plenty of work during his first two games with Washington, and he hasn't yet missed any kicks during that time. Since joining his new team, the 25-year-old has made all five of his field-goal attempts while converting all five of his extra-point tries.

  • Joey Slye: Waived by 49ers

Slye was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The kicker was let go Tuesday after starting the last three games for San Francisco. The move was made because Robbie Gould (groin) is expected to be activated this week. Slye went 7-for-8 on field goals for the team and 2-for-4 on PATs, but will now be claimed by another team, added to San Francisco's practice squad or released.

  • 49ers' Joey Slye: Solid debut in SF

Slye connected from 47 yards out and converted his lone extra-point attempt in Sunday's 17-10 loss to Arizona. Slye took over for Robbie Gould (groin), who was placed on IR last week. The 25-year-old went 4-for-5 on field-goal attempts with Houston prior to being scooped up by San Francisco. Slye should continue to start for at least two more games while Gould is on the mend, starting with a matchup against the Colts in Week 7 following the team's bye.

  • 49ers' Joey Slye: Ends up in Bay Area

The 49ers signed Slye on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. With kicker Robbie Gould (groin) set to miss multiple weeks, Slye will get the first shot to replace him after going through a workout Tuesday along with Michael Badgley and Brett Maher, according to Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston. Slye filled in for Ka'imi Fairbairn in Houston for the first three games of the current campaign, making four of five field-goal attempts and seven of eight point-after tries.

  • Joey Slye: Dropped by Houston

The Texans waived Slye on Thursday. After Houston elevated Slye from its practice squad ahead of both of its first two games to handle kicking duties, the 25-year-old was officially signed to the 53-man roster prior to last week's loss to the Panthers. Though he performed capably by connecting on 11 of his 13 kicks for Houston, Slye will ultimately lose hold of the job with top kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn (leg) on track to return from injured reserve for the Texans' Week 4 matchup with Buffalo. Slye shouldn't have much trouble finding an opportunity with Houston's or another organization's practice squad, if he isn't immediately claimed off waivers or signed to a 53-man roster when he clears waivers.

  • Texans' Joey Slye: Misses one kick

Slye made his lone field-goal attempt and miss his only PAT during Thursday's 24-9 loss to the Panthers. The Texans unsurprisingly struggled to move the ball with rookie third-rounder Davis Mills helming the offense, and Slye's only field-goal opportunity -- which he converted -- came from 53 yards during the fourth quarter. The 25-year-old is 4-for-5 on field goals and 7-for-8 on extra points through the first three games of the season, but Ka'imi Fairbairn (leg) is progressing in his recovery and is eligible to be activated from injured reserve, so the clock is ticking on Slye's time as Houston's kicker.

  • Texans' Joey Slye: Signed to Houston's roster

The Texans signed Slye to their 53-man roster ahead of Thursday's game against the Panthers. Houston elevated Slye to the 53-man roster for the third time this season Wednesday, but his signing Thursday suggests he won't be immediately sent back to the practice squad following the matchup with Carolina. Even so, whether Slye remains Houston's kicker for the Week 4 game in Buffalo may hinge on the health of Ka'imi Fairbairn (leg). After opening the season on injured reserve, Fairbairn is first eligible to return Week 4, though it's unclear if he's made enough progress in his recovery at this point to take back kicking duties for Houston.

  • Texans' Joey Slye: Set to kick for Houston in Week 3

The Texans elevated Slye from the practice squad Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. Slye is set for a third straight turn as Houston's placekicker, as Ka'imi Fairbairn won't be eligible to come off injured reserve until Week 4 at the earliest. In last weekend's loss to Cleveland, the Texans only afforded Slye one field-goal attempt, which he missed. Now, with rookie Davis Mills set to helm Houston's offense Thursday against the Panthers, Slye could have limited scoring opportunities once again.
