Player Outlook
Slye will open the season as the starting kicker for the Commanders, but he should not be drafted in the majority of leagues. At best, you can add Slye off the waiver wire during the season. In 2022, Slye made 25 of 30 field goals, including four of six from 50 yards, and 24 of 28 PATs. He averaged 6.3 Fantasy points per game, which was the lowest of his career. If the Commanders offense can improve this season under new quarterback Sam Howell or Jacoby Brissett, Slye will hopefully benefit with more scoring chances. But let him prove himself first before using him in the majority of Fantasy leagues.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Misses lone field-goal attempt

Slye missed his only field-goal attempt but converted his only extra-point try in Sunday's 45-15 loss versus the Dolphins. Washington's offense was only able to log 245 total yards in Week 13, so Slye's opportunities to kick were predictably few and far between. His only chance at a field goal didn't come until the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach, and he pushed the 53-yard attempt wide right. After a bye in Week 14, the Commanders will travel to take on a middling Rams defense.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Knocks down only field goal in loss

Slye converted on a 43-yard field-goal try and his lone extra-point attempt during Thursday's 45-10 loss to Dallas. Slye wasn't presented many scoring opportunities in Thursday's blowout loss, with the Commanders finding themselves trailing significantly from an early stage. Washington's offense will look to get back on track versus the Dolphins in Week 13, though Miami's defense has notably improved of late.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Makes two field goals in loss

Slye was able to connect on both of his field-goal tries but converted just one of two extra-point attempts in Sunday's 31-19 loss to the Giants. Slye missed a PAT attempt for the second week in a row, although he remained perfect for the fourth straight week on FGAs. The Virginia Tech product was good from 23 yards in the first quarter, then was successful again from 42 yards in the third quarter. Next up for Slye and the Commanders is a Thanksgiving Day divisional matchup with the Cowboys.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Perfect in close win

Slye converted both of his two field-goal attempts and both of his two extra-point tries in Sunday's 20-17 win at New England. None of his kicks approached the range of the 61-yarder he made in Week 8, but Slye did enough in Week 9 to help Washington secure the win. In Week 10, the Commanders offense draws a favorable matchup against a below-average Seattle defense.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Has chip shot blocked Sunday

Slye failed to convert his only field-goal attempt but made his lone extra-point try in Sunday's 14-7 loss at the Giants. On a day where Washington struggled to get much of anything going offensively, Slye was only called out for one field-goal try. Leonard Williams rose up to block the 27-yarder early in the fourth quarter to maintain the Giants' touchdown advantage. The Commanders figure to be heavy underdogs in Week 8 versus Philadelphia, capping fantasy expectations for Slye in that contest.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Gets job done in win

Slye made his only field-goal attempt and all of his three extra-point tries in Sunday's 24-16 win at Atlanta. Slye's toughest task of the day was a 37-yard field goal after the first drive of the game, and he drove it dead center between the uprights. He has struggled somewhat on longer kicks through six games this season, but that might not matter much when Washington travels to take on a weak Giants defense in Week 7.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Misses key kick Thursday

Slye converted two of his three field-goal attempts in Thursday's 40-20 loss versus Chicago. After the Bears jumped out to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter, it was clear Washington would be playing catch-up and that Slye's opportunities would be few and far between. The Commanders opted to try for two after both of their two touchdowns on the night and eventually threatened to cut the game down to a one-score margin with five minutes to play. However, Slye pushed a 46-yard attempt wide to the right, effectively putting the contest out of reach. He projects as an average (at best) fantasy option at kicker in Week 6, even given he'll be playing indoors.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Stays busy Sunday

Slye made all four of his extra-point tries and connected on his lone field-goal attempt in Sunday's 34-31 overtime loss to the Eagles. Slye's only FGA came from 27 yards out in the second quarter, while the Commanders' four touchdowns kept him returning to the field. The veteran kicker is now 9-of-9 on PATs on the season while improving to 6-for-8 on field-goal attempts. His next kicking opportunities will come Thursday against the Bears.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Rocky performance

Slye connected on all three of his extra-point tries, but he missed two of his four field-goal attempts in a 35-33 win over the Broncos on Sunday. Syle missed wide right on his first FGA from 49 yards out on the team's opening drive. However, the 27-year-old recovered to connect from 44 and then from 49 yards to close out the first half. His last attempt and second miss came from 59 yards halfway through the third quarter with the game tied at 21. His next opportunities will come Week 3 against the Bills.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Accurate in victory

Slye converted both his two field-goal attempts and both his extra-point tries in Sunday's 20-16 win over Arizona. Slye did everything Washington asked of him in Week 1 and got off to a perfect start to the 2023 season after winning the starting job in August. In Week 2, the Commanders will travel to the Mile High City to take on Denver, a good kicking environment historically. The bad news for Slye is the Commanders will be coming in as underdogs to face a defense that allowed just 17 points in Week 1.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Likely starter for Washington

Slye is the only kicker on the Commanders' roster after the team released Michael Badgley on Sunday. Slye appeared in all 17 games for Washington last season after he originally joined the team in November of 2021. The Commanders' starting kicker job appeared to be up for grabs this preseason after the Commanders signed Badgley in May, though it looks like Slye did enough to retain this role instead. The 27-year-old converted 37 of his 42 field-goal attempts and went 33-for-38 on PATs over 23 regular-season contests with Washington, and he's entering the final season of a two-year contract.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Makes only field goal in Week 17

Slye made one field goal and one PAT during Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Browns. Slye was able to convert an extra-point attempt in the first half before later adding a 43-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. The kicker has had limited opportunities in recent weeks, going 3-for-3 on field goals over his last three games. After struggling to maintain a roster spot in 2021, Slye has earned a look moving forward after he's converted 23 out of 26 field-goal tries over 16 games with the Commanders this season.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Quiet outing in loss

Slye made both of his extra-point tries during Saturday's 37-20 loss against the 49ers. Slye didn't garner a field-goal attempt for the first time since Week 3 and was held to just two PATs, as Washington opted to go for two after its final touchdown in the fourth quarter. Coming into the contest, Slye had made 22 of 25 field goals and 16 of 18 extra-point tries over his past 11 appearances, so his lack of opportunities Saturday can likely be chalked up to a tough matchup against the surging 49ers. The veteran kicker will look to get back on track against the Browns in Week 17.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Chances limited, unfavorable Sunday

Slye converted on both of his two field-goal attempts but missed his lone point-after try in Sunday's game versus the Giants. Slye opened the scoring with a 47-yarder late in the first quarter and connected on a 51-yarder to cut Washington's deficit to five points in the fourth quarter, but he missed his only extra point attempt in the third quarter after it was lengthened by an offensive pass interference flag on a two-point try. Kickers are rarely automatic when temperatures are hovering around freezing as they were in Washington on Sunday night, so Slye's performance in Week 15 was solid given the context, just as he's been solid all year for the Commanders. However, Washington is averaging an anemic 18.9 points per game and will see a stout defense on the road in San Francisco in Week 16, so Slye doesn't project as a great fantasy option for Saturday.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Misses from over 50

Slye converted on two of his three field-goal attempts and was successful on both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 20-20 with the Giants. Slye opened the scoring with a 21-yard field goal in the first quarter, then he connected on a 42-yarder late in the second. His only miss on the day came early in the four quarter from 52 yards out, which was his first miss on a field-goal attempt from 50-plus yards on the season. After a Week 14 bye, Syle will kick against the Giants again in Week 15.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Misses PAT in win

Slye made both field-goal attempts and one of two PAT tries in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Falcons. Slye missed a PAT in the third quarter, but he connected on all of his other kicks, including a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 45-yarder in the fourth. The 26-year-old kicker has missed only twice on 20 field-goal attempts while converting 17 of 19 PAT attempts.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Converts trio of FGs

Slye made all three of his field-goal attempts and both PAT tries in Sunday's 23-10 win over Houston. Washington dominated a Texans team that fell to 1-8-1, which led to another busy outing for Slye, who has converted all seven of his field-goal attempts in the past two games. His makes against Houston came from 25, 24 and 44 yards.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Another perfect outing

Slye made his only field-goal attempt and both extra-point tries during Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Vikings. Slye now has back-to-back weeks without a missed kick following Sunday's loss to Minnesota, where he converted from 44 yards out at the end of the second quarter. Through Washington's first nine games, the 26-year-old is 9-for-11 on field-goal attempts and 12-for-13 on extra-point tries, and he'll look to keep his strong play going in the Week 10 matchup in Philadelphia.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Does job in close win

Slye connected on his only field-goal attempt and both of his point-after tries during Washington's 17-16 win at Indianapolis on Sunday. Slye chipped in a 28-yarder to bring the Commanders within one score with six minutes remaining and knocked a game-winning point-after attempt through with 22 seconds left. The 26-year-old kicker hasn't seen a ton of opportunities this season as the Washington offense has struggled, but he's been solid in his limited opportunities with an 8-for-10 field-goal conversion rate through eight games in 2022. Unless the Commanders start scoring more consistently though, Slye still likely won't be a great fantasy option.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Makes only attempt Sunday

Slye converted on his only field-goal attempt and both of his two point-after tries during Washington's 21-17 loss versus Tennessee on Sunday. Slye made a 50-yarder in the first quarter, but he didn't see another field-goal opportunity the rest of the game. He's been incredibly efficient of late, converting on 14-of-14 attempts over his last 11 games with the Commanders, but that hasn't returned great fantasy results as Washington's offense continues to sputter. With a Thursday night game in Chicago on tap for Week 6, Slye is a still poor option for fantasy managers.
