Charles Godfrey: Decides to retire
Godfrey has decided to retire after eight NFL seasons, Vaughn McClure of ESPN reports.
Godfrey was signed by the Falcons on multiple occasions last year, as well as going into this offseason. Entering his ninth NFL season, the safety was unlikely to see much time on the field and apparently decided that retirement was a preferable option. In his eight seasons, Godfrey recorded 11 interceptions, 34 passes defensed and 384 tackles while playing seven seasons in Carolina and one in Atlanta.

Falcons' Charles Godfrey: Signs one-year deal with Falcons
Godfrey has agreed to a one-year deal with the Falcons, Vaughn McClure of ESPN reports.
Godfrey has now signed with the Falcons five times since October of 2014, a testimony to his situation in Atlanta as a fill-in rather than a focal point on the Falcons' defense. The veteran safety recorded only 12 total tackles in 2015 and will more than likely serve as a backup to young safeties Ricardo Allen and Kemal Ishmael in 2016. Don't look for Godfrey to make much fantasy noise this coming season.

Falcons' Charles Godfrey: Role diminishes in 2015
Godfrey was limited to 10 tackles and a forced fumble in 2015.
Kemal Ishmael beat out Godfrey for the starting role, and he failed to produce in a limited role. Godfrey enters the offseason without a contract, and it seems like he'll be looking for a new team when free agency begins.
