by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Panthers activated Schofield from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.

Schofield has been on the COVID-19 list since Oct. 19, but he's cleared the necessary protocols and will return to team activities. The veteran lineman lost his starting job before landing on the list, and it's unclear how he'll be utilized upon return.

Panthers' Michael Schofield: Lands on COVID list
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schofield was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.

Schofield has either contracted the virus or came into close contact with an infected person. Either way, he'll need to pass the NFL's COVID-19 protocols before returning to team activities. His absence will hurt the team's offensive line depth, but he hasn't started a game since Week 2.

Schofield was claimed off waivers by the Chargers last September and was expected to serve in a depth role, but endued up starting five games for the team in 2017. Broncos OL Michael Schofield looking to compete for starting job
by Dave Peters |

Broncos offensive lineman Michael Schofield is ready to come in and compete for a starting job this season, reports the Denver Post.

After not dressing for a single game as a rookie, Schofield added weight and he looks forward to fighting for a starting job.

"I am going in there with that mentality. In the NFL everybody is competing," Schofield said during a road trip to see family in Illinois. "They are looking for someone to step up and take over. I want to make that jump."

The third-round draft pick of the Broncos in 2014 struggled with weight issues, but he is now up to 305 pounds. He also recognized that his pass protection needs improvement.

"Personally, I felt there were reasons I wasn't out there (for games). I wasn't consistent enough in pass pro (protection). And my weight was really fluctuating," Schofield said.

Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak believes that the team's zone-blocking scheme can help Schofield elevate his game, and Schofield agrees.

"We like the Schofield kid, so we'll see. We think he's got some flexibility (in where he can play)," Kubiak said. "It will be very competitive."

"I feel like I am better suited for this," Schofield said. "You have to be able to reach block, and I feel the steps required fit me better."
