Donnal was re-signed by the Lions on Friday.
Donnal appeared in just two games for Detroit in 2018, but will be brought back again this season to provide depth along the offensive line.
Donnal should have little problem picking up the playbook after spending the early portion of the season with the team. He rejoins the team on the heels of T.J. Lang's concussion Sunday. He should serve as a depth option along the offensive line once again.
Donnal was waived by the Lions on Saturday, Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press reports.
Donnal was released in order to make room for defensive end Eric Lee on the active roster. Donnal didn't play in a single contest this season for the Lions as he battled a knee injury, which he was finally cleared from Thursday.
Donnal (knee) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Donnal has missed three straight regular-season games due to a nagging knee injury, but he finally appears to have gotten healthy. The 26-year-old will work to suit up against the Cowboys on Sunday and serve as a backup to starting left tackle Taylor Decker.
Donnal (knee) will not play against the Jets on Monday.
Donnal's absence leaves Detroit without notable depth behind left tackle Taylor Decker for Monday's season opener against the Jets. There's currently no reason to suspect that Donnal's injury will sideline him for long, so the 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day until more information on his injury is released.
