Butler (undisclosed) has reverted to the Raiders' injured reserve per the NFL's official transaction log.
Butler went unclaimed on the wire after getting waived with an injury designation. While it remains unclear what he is dealing with, he is set to spend the season on IR unless he can come to terms on an injury settlement.
Butler (undisclosed) was waived from Oakland's injured reserve with an injury settlement Friday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
It's unclear what type of injury Butler is dealing with, but it's seemingly serious enough to have landed him on injured reserve in the first place. The 26-year-old has yet to make his regular-season NFL debut, but for now he'll have to focus on getting healthy and finding another squad.
Butler (undisclosed) caught his lone target for six yards in Thursday's 17-15 preseason loss to the Seahawks.
Butler missed practice earlier in the week due to an unknown issue, but he played over 60 offensive snaps Thursday as health no longer appears to be a concern. Unfortunately for the undrafted rookie, Derek Carrier and Luke Willson have much better odds of making the 53-man roster behind fellow tight ends Darren Waller and Foster Moreau.
Butler did not practice Monday, Matt Kawahara of The San Francisco Chronicle reports.
It is unknown why the tight end was sitting out of practice, but he did miss time earlier in training camp due to a hip injury. Look for more updates on his status to come before Thursday's preseason finale against the Seahawks.
Butler (hip) was able to take the field for Tuesday's practice, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
Butler was forced to leave Thursday's practice early due to the hip injury but seems to have recovered. The undrafted rookie is still stuck in a logjam at the tight end position, as he attempts to make the 53-man roster.
Butler left Thursday's practice early due to a hip injury, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Butler is competing for a depth spot on Oakland's roster and will work to return to full health as soon as possible. Foster Moreau and Derek Carrier could see increased reps as long as Butler remains sidelined.
The Raiders signed Butler from their practice squad on Monday, Matt Schneidman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Butler has spent the entire season on Oakland's practice squad after having not made the team during roster cutdowns, but he now has a spot on the 53-man roster following the placement of Daryl Worley (shoulder) on injured reserve. He'll work to make his NFL debut during Oakland's last two games of the season, but he'll have difficulty earning snaps behind Jared Cook, Lee Smith, Derek Carrier and Darren Waller.
Butler was waived by the Raiders on Saturday, the Associated Press reports.
There wasn't room for Butler on the Raiders' 53-man roster with Jared Cook, Lee Smith and Derek Carrier handling the duties at tight end.
