Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Takes two touches
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Patterson took one carry for five yards and caught his lone target for a loss of two yards in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Chiefs.

Patterson got three touches Week 4 and four more Week 5, but it was J.D. McKissic who picked up the slack Sunday with Antonio Gibson bothered by his shin at times. McKissic finished with eight carries for 45 yards and a team-high eight catches for 65 yards, while Gibson managed 10 carries for 44 yards and two catches for no gain. Patterson was a distant third in usage, per usual, but he could split work with McKissic in Week 7 at Green Bay if Gibson is absent or limited.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Strictly playing special teams
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Patterson played 12 snaps on special teams in Thursday's 30-29 win over the Giants.

The undrafted rookie out of Buffalo has four snaps on offense and 20 on special teams through the first two games of his pro career, operating as the No. 3 back in Washington behind Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. Any hope for a large role this season likely involves an injury to one of those two, but it is possible Washington could give Patterson a few more carries throughout the year if he continues to impress in practice. For the time being, he'll focus on special teams, continuing Week 3 at Buffalo.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Makes team
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Patterson appears to have a spot on Washington's initial 53-man roster, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

The undrafted rookie out of Buffalo is one of three running backs left on the roster after Peyton Barber was released Tuesday morning, though it is possible Washington re-signs Barber after cutdown day (and thus avoids guaranteeing his salary). Even if Barber is brought back, the willingness to risk losing him suggests Washington is comfortable with Patterson in the No. 3 role. The rookie likely won't match Barber's contributions as a blocker or coverage man on special teams, but Patterson could get some touches on kick returns and would also offer a more explosive element if Washington ever needed to replace an injured Antonio Gibson or J.D. McKissic.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Excels again
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Patterson had 16 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown and three catches for 25 yards in Friday's 17-13 preseason win over Cincinnati.

The undrafted rookie out of Buffalo is making his case to unseat Peyton Barber as Washington's No. 3 running back, adding another strong performance Friday after taking 10 carries for a team-high 40 yards and four catches for a team-high 30 yards in the preseason opener. Even if Barber sticks around for special teams and/or short-yardage work, Patterson might convince Washington to keep four running backs on the Week 1 roster. And, if nothing else, he'll have a shot to be signed by another team should Washington try to sneak him on to the practice squad.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Gets 14 touches in NFL debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Patterson took 10 carries for 40 yards and caught three of four targets for 30 yards in Thursday's 22-13 preseason loss to New England.

The undrafted rookie out of Buffalo is competing with Lamar Miller, Peyton Barber and Jonathan Williams for one or two spots at RB behind roster locks Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. While Barber and Miller scored Washington's touchdowns Thursday night, Patterson was the only back on the team with more than 35 total yards. In terms of playing time, Gibson and McKissic handled the first quarter, followed by Barber early in the second quarter and then a busy drive for Patterson right before halftime (capped off by Barber's one-yard TD). Patterson continued dominating carries in the third quarter before turning things over to Jonathan Williams and Lamar Miller for most of the final frame. It appears that Barber and Patterson are leading the competition for RB depth spots. They'll continue the battle at training camp next week, leading up to an Aug. 20 (Friday) preseason game against Cincinnati.
